Katsuki

I watch in horror as Eijiro and the King go down into the dark. The knights stop fighting and look over the edge. I swim over and see nothing. I hear Eijiro scream out, the knights cheer, thinking the King has gotten a good blow, but Eijiro isn't weak, something really hurt him. We hear the Kings voice, faint, just out of earshot, we can't understand him. The next thing we see is blood. A lot of blood. "EIJIRO!" I scream and move to swim down, then someone pulls my tail, I look back and see Ochaco, "one will rise," she says softly, I look back down and see a fin. A golden one. Not Eijiros. I sigh in relief. I keep watching as I wait for another sign of life....

A body moves towards us. Slowly. I notice grey hair... It was the King. Blood is coming from his body, the guards move to get him, a few of them cower away from him. One of the guards grabs him and pulls him up and to the edge of the Abyss. He was dead. Half his tail; gone. One arm; gone. He also has a huge chunk missing from his side. The sight is awful. Then I remember Ochaco! I spin and see her, her eyes dark and lips pulled tight. I feel a shiver run down my spine as I look at her. "Get rid of it," she says, the guards look at her in disbelief, "yes my Queen," one bows and puts chains on the king's body and throws it back to the Abyss. "Ochaco?" I heard Dekus soft voice ask, "yes, my love?" She asks, "are you okay?" He asks and places his hands on her shoulders, "I need to be strong. For my people. I am fine," she smiles, I can see through it. She feels horrible. I bet she thinks it's her fault.

I hear a woman cry out and then I look to where the scream cam from, Eijiro was there. Bleeding. I rush over to him and pull him away from the edge and rest him against my body, "Katsuki," he says and places his hand on my cheek, "that monster killed the King! Kill it!" A guard yells, I swim between Eijiro and the guards and hiss at them. They jolt back, shocked. They look at one another and move into two groups, I wrap my tail around Eijiro and hug him close to me. The guards trying to find an opening. "Let he Syren be," Ochaco says softly, "but, Queen, he is the reason the king is dead!" One guard defends, "my father is dead because he decided to wage a war against our cousin's! I will not allow this stupid war to continue! Let the two be! And do no ever question my orders again," Ochaco says, all the guards bow and apologise.

I look at my mate, his face an awful pale, his bright eyes, dull. "Ei?" I frown and place my hand on his cheek, "Katsuki? Is he okay?" Ochaco asks, I look into Eijiros eyes, they don't focus on anything. Just stare up at nothing. "Baby, talk to me. Look at me! Please!" I say, panic building in my body, a heavy weight settling in my stomach, I see someone moving towards us, I pick up a sword that was sitting beside me Andi point it at the moving figure, "Katsuki, lower the weapon," my mother's soothing voice speaks, I drop it and keep looking at my mate. "Katsuki, what are you feeling right now?" She asks, I shrug, "use your words hun," se says, "I feel... Cold. Alone. And the feeling in my stomach won't go away," I say as I start to cry, realising what the feelings were. Mum grabs me and pulls me close to her, forcing me to look away from Eijiro. I wrap my arms around her, and scream. I scream and cry until my voice dies. Then I just sob quietly.

I didn't notice but mum must have swam home, I wake in my bed, still her arms. I pull away from her and see a soft reassuring smile show on her face, I place my head against her shoulder and sigh. Mum pets my hair, "that feeling, wasn't what you thought," she says, I lift my head and look at her, "what?" I ask, "the feeling was fear. Not the loss of a mate. Eijiro is alive, he is in the royal healers office, where he is being treated. The feeling that I was hoping I didn't hear you say, was death. When you lose a mate, your instincts kill you too," mum says softly, I look at her for a while, "you haven't looked at me with any face other than anger in ten years," mum says, I make a face and swim outside, I see guards everywhere. Then I see Mina, and a huge Syren swimming beside her. I swim towards the castle and a guard stops me, "no entry to anyone other than the Syren leader," he says. I look at him ad then the Syren who was now behind me, I move away from his reach and watch as he swims into the castle. I look at the guards and dive past them ad swim into the castle. I hear shouts but they stop once I get far enough into the castle. I see the large Syren again, his face is stern and almost scary. He looks over to me, I hide. "Come here boy," the Syren demands, I carefully peek around the corner, he was facing me... I swim out from behind the wall and stand in front of him, "so you are the reason my daughter's betrothed let you live," he speaks, his voice laced with poison. I shiver and nod, "you have a tongue, use it," he growls, "we are mates. It happened a while ago," I say, "indeed, a bond made, then distance was a defining factor for you two. I thought he always looked sad when I mentioned the Merpeople, he would frown and then look sadly into the ocean, I guess to where he met you. He was always thinking about you. I was harsh to exile him. But he found you, so I guess it was a good thing I did," the Syren says, a smile forming on his face, it looks very out of place. I smile thin and nod my head before excusing myself to continue my search for Eijiro.
