The drive to Nebraska was much more bearable than the one to Colorado solely because they had stopped on the way at a mechanic's shop to fix Swan's busted heater. The mechanic had worked wonders on the dying vehicle and now Swan wasn't constantly as cold as the refrigerator. Their next destination was the zoo because Maya had insisted that they should see all the cool animals that they'd have to offer. Claudine thought the brunette may have had a specific animal in mind that she wanted to see rather than all of them though. Claudine hadn't been to a zoo in a long time, so she was quite excited. The only animals she didn't want to see were the giraffes, but she knew they were going to be there. They always had giraffes...

Claudine pulled Swan into the parking lot of the zoo. There were so many people milling around, even before they had entered the darn place. The two actresses hopped out of the car.

"Geez, it's already so crowded. Do you think we'll even be able to see any of the animals with this many people here?" Claudine complained to her partner as they wandered under the entrance sign, which had a stupid giraffe that was sticking out its tongue on it. She knew they'd have that vile creature here.

"If we must push past people to see the animals, we will," Maya announced bravely. Claudine side-eyed her. Maya had a dead serious expression on her face. The corners of Claudine's lips curled up. Maya was always so intense about certain things, but Claudine had never pegged her as someone who'd be heavily invested in looking at animals. How endearing.

Upon entering the zoo, they were greeted by a large sign detailing all the locations of the animals in the zoo. The sign also had a huge cardboard cut-out of a cartoon giraffe giving a thumbs-up sitting next to it. How obnoxious. Claudine turned her attention away from the atrocious mascot of the zoo and over to Maya, who was studying the map.

"Where'd ya like to go first?" The blonde ventured. Maya hummed in thought.

"How about... the elephants?" Maya decided. Claudine nodded and followed Maya. The zoo was ginormous. It had various attractions and food stands lining the pathways to the exhibits. As they walked, Claudine observed that they even had sprinklers to cool visitors. Claudine shuddered at the thought of them turning on. They wouldn't be needing those now, that's for sure. Beside the road, various types of flora rested behind the bars that closed the path. She had never seen any plants like the ones here. She presumed that the unique plants must've been foreign to the country, just like the animals were.

Eventually, the two of them made it to the elephants. Claudine gawked at the behemoth before them. Sure, she knew that elephants were big, but not that big. The beast towered as tall as the brush trees that surrounded it. She watched with rapt fascination as it brought its trunk around one of the branches and snapped it. She shuddered. What could that thing do to her spine? Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a much smaller elephant milling around the large one. It was so tiny, just about her size. The baby elephant let out a small cry as it rose its trunk. Claudine cooed. It was so cute!

"Maya, look at the baby elephant!! Isn't it cute?"

"Yes, it is very cute," responded Maya. "Did you know that elephants spend between 12 to 18 hours of their day eating?" Claudine blinked. What? What did that have to do with the cute little elephant?

"Um, okay...?" Claudine looked over at Maya to see the brunette grinning proudly at her. Was she trying to impress her with her animal knowledge? Claudine couldn't be entirely sure, but that was what it looked like. They'd have to visit more animal exhibits for her to be sure. If she was though... Claudine's heart rate picked up. Maya trying to impress her... what a wonderful thought. Although if that was her intention, she probably was only doing it to show Claudine that she was superior in all fields, even random animal trivia, not because she wanted Claudine's adoration and attention. 'If only it could be the latter option...' Claudine thought.
