Getting Even

Chapter 1

Lilo's POV

     Rose is such a bitch. I mean she's supposed to pick me up in 3 minutes, iI look at my wristwatch again, now 2 minutes left and she's not picking up. There's a big announcement at the office today and I can't be late.
     At 27, I'm an executive at Wilson World owned by one of the richest men in the country, Diñero Wilson. 2 years without sex and the name of a guy I barely see makes me horny. He hardly comes to the company but his wife, Kathryn Wilson, is the CEO. I'm not sure but I think she's had it in for me since I came to the company 2 years ago along with my high school friends, Rose, Angela and Caramel. well, I guess Cindy too.

Anyways, one of the directors dies from a stroke two weeks ago and I feel they want to announce who her successor is this morning. And not to toot my own horn but, heh, I'm a shoe-in. I mean I rose the fastest position as executive of power-related contracts and purely might I add. The only one with more contracts than me is caramel and we all know to get that many contracts a lot of dirty work will be involved, and caramel smells worse than a dead possum on the New York subway. Well anyways, I'm pretty sure she won't want the job anyway. Will she?

Oh for the love of pancakes where is Rose. She is officially ten minutes late and with the traffic in New York I'm sure as hell going to be late. She does this every time she wants something. She sabotages everyone even her closest friends to get what she wants. And I know she wants that job.

I suspected as much when she offered to pick me today. She never picks me up on Mondays because she believes Mondays were too important. Now I have to drive. I have 8 cars that I love so much but I hardly drive. My psychiatrist thinks its because my mum and elder brother died in a car crash when I was 17. I wasn't convinced and asked her, "Why then do I buy cars and drive when I need to?" She replied, "Your mind is ready to overcome your fear, but your subconscious is hindering you."

Well I feel that is a load of crap. I picked the keys yo my Audi and went to Starbucks for my daily dose of a Frappuccino with a bacon sandwich. After getting my order, I turn around to leave and run into Rose's husband, Jay freaking Courts.

"Hi Jay"

"Hey Lee, why aren't you at work yet?" The old high school name making me roll my eyes.

"Rose was supposed to pick me up 15 minutes ago."

I see red. Don't get me wrong I don't mean angry red, I'm talking about the blush crawling up his red cheeks. Then he says the funniest thing ever that I don't find funny at all.

"Rose left 30 minutes ago saying she had to rush to be extra early to work for some announcement.

I knew it! this is the last straw, I'm gonna kill her. That girl, tsk tsk tsk, I fall for it every time.

"Lilo!"

"What?!" I say shocked, "I've been calling your name, you look ready to kill someone." He chuckled.

"Oh, did I? Blanked out sorry. Catch you later, bye."

"Ok bye. And sorry about Rose."

Rose's POV

I rolled out of my water bed and into the shower. I got up 30 minutes earlier just to get ready. I feel sorry for Lilo, I mean she should know I'm not going to pick her up because of the announcement. We all know it's in regards to the director position and I'm gonna just have to have it. Why does she fall for it every time?

I'm 25 and one of the six executives at Wilson World. The executives all manage different things. I manage all the building contracts. Lilo does the same for power-related contracts. Caramel, one of my other friends, manages international affairs and even hols the most contracts. How she did it is between her and her God. And Angela, the last of my friends, analyses all the contracts and makes sure the numbers are right.

They say she does the most important work but I don't buy it. I mean she isn't out there on the field doing the work. She's just helping us save billions of dollars. Nothing much. The only reason she's an executive is because of her random promotions.

And yeah, Cindy is also my friend so let me say something about her. If you ask her we are best of friends but she left my life 10 years ago and appeared 5 years later. I moved on. I still don't know how she got a job at Wilson World or even how she became an executive. When Caramel, Angela, Lilo and I were fighting for the No.1 spot in the class, she was just acting as a spectator with her average grades bullying people to help her. She is in charge of human affairs.

Then the last executive is David Singh. He is actually the most useless of the executives and has no chance of being the new director. I mean I literally don't know what he does.

Jay just woke up, my amazing husband. We've been married for 5 years and we've been trying for a child but no luck, yet we still love each other like we are still teenagers. His a C-list actor but he just got a big role in a box office movie so he's gonna move up the food chain.

Funny story I stole Jay away from Cindy 10 years ago. It still feels like yesterday when they were walking around school, the richest couple of Love Bridges High, Queens. Or so we thought, none of us could believe the truth.

I kissed Jay goodbye and got in the brand new convertible he got me last week. I drove pass Lilo's street for a quick laugh and head to the office.
