It's been a week since Nicolas and Minen talk below the dark skies as they watch the unmoving river reflect the stars. It was also been a week since Nicolas moved in the city with his newly found parents. They were happy, Nicolas was happy. It was almost the happiest moment of his life. His mom would gradually sing him a song every time he sleeps and his dad who would walk and play with him almost every day in the park near their house.

Everyone would've been jealous about how perfect they are. Nicolas hadn't even felt he was just adopted, they made him feel like they were their own son.

It was almost perfect. Almost.

It was their usual setup. His dad who would pick up his mom from work and Nicolas would wait in the living room for his parents, sometimes watching television to kill some time.

But no. One hour. Two hours. A night had pass. It was 3 am in the morning and Nicolas couldn't take any sleep. He had been in the living room for God knows how many hours. His parents were not home yet and it's bothering him. No, he's been bothered since an hour that his parents weren't able to get home.

Did they left him?

The thought never crosses Nicolas' mind, just now.

What if they abandoned him? But that's impossible. They were so happy this past few days. Did they get tired of him?

He wanted to call the cops but he didn't know how.

He stayed there, unmoving. Tears started to show as his mind would just think that maybe they already left him.

Soon, when the sun is showing up that someone rang their doorbell. Nicolas shot up. Hopeful that it was just his parents. Maybe they got traffic or what that's why they couldn't come home last evening.

"Mom! Dad!" The young boy screamed gleefully as he opened the door of their home.

"Nicolas..."

But it wasn't them.

"Head sister? What are you doing here? Where's mom and dad?"

The lady was lost in words for a moment. She couldn't talk but her tears started going out of her eyes as she look sympathetically at Nicolas.

"Oh..." Was what the sister mumbled as she embraced the seven-year-old boy.

"What's wrong head sister?" Nicolas was confused but more importantly, he thinks he already knows why but he couldn't get to agree. He wanted to hear it loud and clear.

He was suddenly reminded by what Minen had told him. Humans couldn't accept the truth that's why they would just close their eyes.

It was funny how everything that Minen told him is true and spot on.

I guess Minen is really less of a human, even though I really don’t know what he meant by that. Nicolas thought.

"Nicolas, dear. Remember what the sisters told you? That people goes to heaven when they weren't able to continue living here in the land? Your parents... They were both unable to meet you again because they are needed in heaven." The sister started explaining but Nicolas started hearing nothing since the mention of heaven.

He is a smart kid. When the head sister showed up, he knew something bad is happening. And when she started crying, the boy had a hunch, that they were both dead.

"... But don't worry, we'll take—"

"How did they die?"

The head sister was taken aback by how Nicolas did not shed any tears and how he questioned how his parents die. She knows the kid is smart, he takes in fast what everything they teach him and he would constantly asked some high-level questions for a seven-year-old.
