When I opened the front door to my house I revealed two angry figures with their arms crossed. As soon as I saw them my heart dropped. This was not good.
"Hey?" I say sheepishly.
"What.........?" My dad's voice says in a tight whisper. His whisper turns into a shout. " What were you thinking MAYVA? You had your mum and I worried sick! No note was left behind to tell us where you were and you were nowhere in the city!" I resisted the temptation to block my ears in mere protection from my dad's shout. My ears were already ringing and I could tell this was probably going to get worse.
I took in a deep breath before replying, " How did you know I wasn't in the city? The city is small but it's not that small."
Okay, so that probably wasn't the smartest thing to say.
This time my mother replied, "Someone spotted you Mayva, outside the city." Her voice is calm but I could tell by the way her eyebrows are titled upward and how her eyes seemed to send invisible daggers at me that she, like my father, was outraged.
I knew I wouldn't win this fight so instead of staying to listen to their disapproving comments I passed them and ran up to my bedroom.
Once I got in there my eyes sprouted salty water as I slid down the door to my lifeless bedroom. I released a shaky breath I never knew I was holding. Looking around my bedroom trying to control my rapid breathing, I noticed remembered something unusual.
Oh, no this was bad. I jump up off the cold wooden floor and reach for my doorknob but before I could reach it I hear a click on the other side. My parents had installed a lock. Ignoring my conscious I rattled at the doorknob with all my might, hoping that if I were strong enough it would open. But was no use, I was trapped.
