tonight i was going to a halloween party at the hype house. avani had done my makeup earlier and even let me borrow an outfit. she made sure to give me the cutest one she had because she heard josh was gonna be there.

however, i didn't think he would show up. why would he go to the hype house anyway, with all of the chase drama? after avani left, i sat down on the couch and looked through josh's social medias to see if he had posted anything about going to the party.

he did not. how disappointing.

even though i was sure he wouldn't go, a small part of me was hoping he would. i put my phone up and waited for blake, who was my ride to and from the party. blake is one of my best friends and even if josh didn't show up, i'd still have a great time with blake there. i was snapped out of my thoughts by a car horn going off over and over. i walked outside and saw blake's car on my driveway. blake was still honking the horn.

"i heard you!" i laughed, opening the car door.

blake was dressed like a pirate, i didn't know why but his costume was actually pretty neat.

"that's a cool costume," i said.

"thanks. i got a parrot too," he said, motioning his head towards a green plush parrot in the backseat. "i like yours too. you get all dolled up for josh?"

he smirked and i playfully hit his arm.

"no i didn't get all dolled up for josh," i said, mocking him. "avani did this and besides, is josh even going?"

"i heard he was. i don't know for sure though."

we arrived at the hype house, and sure enough it was packed.

"i hope there's still a lot of candy left," blake muttered as he locked the car door.

we pushed through a crowd in the front yard and hurried into the house. well, blake was the one in a hurry. he ran through the front door, pulling me with him. as i tried to keep up with blake, i looked for josh among the crowd of people.

"come on, y/n!" he shouted.

"blake calm down!"

we finally entered the living room and looked around. i was impressed by how cool everything looked; there were decorations covering the house from top to bottom, and the whole room was filled with orange neon lighting.

"where's the candy?" blake asked, looking around the room.

"um, you left your parrot in the car," i said.

blake quickly looked at his shoulder, where the parrot was supposed to be.

"shiver me timbers!" he exclaimed, pushing past the crowd and running back towards the door.

"blake wait! come back!" i shouted.

i tried running after him but bumped into someone, nearly knocking them over.

"sorry," i said, looking up to see dixie.

"y/n! hi!" she exclaimed, giving me a quick hug. "so you came with blake?"

"yeah," i nodded. "he's my ride."

i found myself looking around the room once again. it was like some sort of automatic thing by now.

"he's here you know," dixie said in a low voice.

'josh?' i mouthed in surprise.

dixie smiled and nodded.

"in the kitchen. he's been looking for you. i heard him tell bryce he hoped you'd come."

i couldn't believe what i was hearing. my head started spinning as the loud music drowned out. i couldn't think.

he was looking for me?

i walked past dixie and made my way towards the kitchen. i looked around and...

there he is.

josh was sitting on the counter, occasionally looking up from his phone as if he was looking for something.

or someone.

"looking for me?" i asked, approaching the counter.

josh quickly looked up, smiling as soon as we made eye contact.

"yes actually," he replied, hopping off the counter.

"i uh- didn't think you'd come," i said.

"i wasn't planning on it, but bryce wanted to. you know, because addison's here. he made me go with him."

"i didn't plan on coming either. but avani and blake insisted that i should so, here i am."

we stood in silence for a few seconds, then josh spoke:

"you look really good."

i looked up at him with a funny look on my face.

"are you serious?"

"yeah." he gave me a small smile. "like really, really good."

he held out his hand.

"wanna go dance?"

i smiled and took his hand.

"love to."

we ran out to the living room where everyone was dancing, including avani and blake.

"hey hey hey!" blake said holding up a bag full of candy, the plush parrot sitting on his shoulder.

"look at you two!" avani exclaimed. "i did a great job, didn't i?"

"i guess i owe you a thank you," i said before she, blake, josh, and i started dancing, josh staying close to me the whole time.
