"Perfect! You two are just perfect!"
Marshall felt his stomach twist into a tight knot as he looked at the piercing eyes of the Yali regions Champion. It almost felt like he was looking straight into his heart, at every action he's ever done, or so he thought. "You two will be me and May's opponents, then?" He inquired.
"We didn't exactly agree-" Countered Kylie,
"Yet you're here now, aren't you?" He replied.
"He has a point. We didn't exactly protest," Marshall supported the Champion's point. Kylie gave a defeated glance. "..Well, can you at least tell us your name?" She asked the Champ.
"Oh, my name? It's Epolus!"
"...Epolus?" Marshall questioned after a moment of analysis.
"Yeah, it's not exactly a common name."
"I've never heard it in my life," Kylie said.
"It doesn't matter, we have something to do!" Epolus said, and he ran into the arena. Someone started announcing.
"It seems as if the Champion has returned! He seems to of found his two challengers. Enter when you're ready!" The announcer called.
"Here, take this." An attendee said, entering the locker room. She healed their Pokemon, and gave them each a hat.
"This is a challenger's hat. You'll wear it for this battle, as sort of a Galar region trend." She said. Marshall nodded and fastened the cap to his head, and so did Kylie. Then they each took deep breaths, and entered the stadium nervously. The lights at first came off as blinding to Marshall, and he covered his eyes. The cheering from the crowd nauseated him, and he began to feel sick. Walking forward, the cheering seemed like it was quieting, and then they stood across from their opponents.
"The battle between Epolus of Yali and May of Hoenn against Challengers Marshall and Kylie is about to begin! Champions, choose your Pokemon!"
Epolus sent out his ace, Toxicroak.
May used her ace, Sceptile.
"Sceptile and Toxicroak..? What do we do against them..?" Marshall mumbled to himself, trying to find an advantage to the situation.
In the end, Marshall chose to send out Zorro.
Kylie sent out her Raboot.
"Well! It seems the challengers have chosen their Pokemon. Let the battle.."
"Begin!"
With Zorro's speed, Marshall thought, he should be able to out-speed that Toxicroak and hopefully land the first attack.
"Zorro, use-"
"Sceptile, use Detect!"
Zorro's planned Night Slash was to be deflected almost instantaneously by Sceptile's well planned Detect.
"Toxicroak, use Brick Break!" Epolus insisted, and Zorro got hit by the Super Effective Brick Break, effectively sending her down stadium. Raboot took advantage of the downtime and landed a direct hit with Flame Charge against Sceptile, it's Detect move wearing off. Raboot then made sure to rebound to not get hit by Toxicroak. Zorro, now back up and moving, clashed with Toxicroak's attack, and in turn started sending flurries of attacks at each other with an unrelenting aggression. Zorro, being sustainably weaker, was starting to lose the fight. (Well, she's also at a type disadvantage..) Raboot, who was caught up with Sceptile at that moment, noticed the underlying struggle. Quick planning between Trainer and Pokemon ensued, and Kylie knew what to do.
