GENEVA

This was crazy... It was so crazy... I can't believe I'm doing this right now...

I jumped, my phone ringing and I looked at it. It was Bruns.

"Hello?"

"Are you making dinner tonight?"

"I hadn't planned on it... Why?"

"I was going to grab something on the way home if you weren't. I have to work a little late."

"Oh... Well, I do have to go grocery shopping, but that's fine. I'll grab something as well."

"Okay. I'll see you tonight."

"Bye."

I hung up and put my face in my hands. He couldn't know... I couldn't tell him what I was planning to do. I grabbed the keys and went to the car, turning it on. I sighed and headed back to Grand Marquis. I had to find out the truth about all of this mess...

I drove past the sign to Grand Marquis, memories flooding back to me. The first time we left the town after Max's death... I gripped the steering wheel, trying to keep my cool. He sounded just like my son but it was too good to be true. It had to be... I wiped the tears from my eyes and pulled over onto the side of the long road into Grand Marquis. This was so hard for me, but I had to know. If this was a horrible hoax, I would beat the person who thought of it and if it was real... oh... I tried not to cry anymore. I can't keep doing this to myself. I thought I had finally moved on, but I guess I haven't. It's been almost a year since he died... I sighed and decided to maybe talk to someone about what I was going through first.

I knocked on the door and waited for a few seconds. The door opened and Adah blinked in surprise.

"Geneva..."

"Hey... um..."

"Come in, come in..."

I walked into the Holt home and looked around, feeling a rush of nostalgia from when Max was little and I would bring him over to play with Mars. I never thought after the ordeal we had that I would be coming to Adah for advice, but she had told me what she had seen when she picked up Mars from the hospital and I needed more information.

"This is a pleasant surprise. What brings you all the way back to Grand Marquis?"

"Questions... answers... confusion..."

"Do you want something to drink?"

"A water if you wouldn't mind."

She nodded and got up, going to the kitchen. I heard a noise and turned as someone started coming down the stairs.

"Mom!"

"Yes?"

"Where's my phone? And where's my laptop?"

"Your phone should be in a drawer somewhere and your laptop is in the desk like it's supposed to be."

Mars crutched from around the corner of the stairs and then stopped when he saw me.

"Mrs. Taylor..."

"Hey, Mars."

"Why are you here?"

"It's none of your business, Marsden." Adah said with a growl as she handed me a bottle of water. "If you're wanting to play games and stuff then you'll have to do it upstairs. We're talking."
