Vida, princess of Zorrow arose from her bed, her dark hair draping over her shoulders and cascading down her back. She looked down onto the landscape below her, into the green mist, barely seeing the tops of the mint green cottage roofs surrounding her. She pulled her gold embroidered duvet cover off her body, her white night gown flowing to right above her ankles. Although it was a day of joy, sorrow was swallowing her soul. Keeping her eyes set on the mist below her, she watched as the light wisps flowed smoothly like waves. She closed her eyes slowly, yearning to know what it would feel like to be engulfed in the haze.
"Vida?" The fair voice of her mother echoed around the halls as she stepped into her daughters room, her presence somehow brightening it. "You've slept in again, your father was getting worried" she said gently, letting out a small smile, although they both knew that was a lie. She had long dark brown hair, just like her daughter, that was pulled back tightly into a low bun. Unlike her daughter, she had soft fair smooth skin, whereas Vida's face and arms were covered in freckles. Although wrinkles formed at the corners of her eyes, they seemed to make her more elegant and beautiful, then when she didn't have them. Her dark green eyes glinted, as she spoke again.
"Vida, I-"
"It is alright mother" Vida interrupted, looking at the ground. 'I know you've tried but, it looks like the God's have taken it into their own hands, there's nothing we can do"
The two women stood in silence, both looking at the ground in both regret and sadness.
"Leona, I think I would like my wife to plan my schedule before the Gods take my soul please?" Vida's mother's head snapped up at the call of her name before quickly saying "Vida please don't be too upset,we can just pray for the best mm?" After that she hastily speed-walked down the hall to attend to the king. Vida suddenly sighed, letting go of the breath she had only just noticed she was holding. Her mother had become so good at pretending like everything was okay. Pretending like it wasnt the day that she lost her daughter for good. Vida blew out the candle beside her bed, then picked out the dress that she wore everyday, a pang of misery filling her once again as she realised it would be the last day that she would wear it. A coronation day was a joyous time for the people of Zorrow, but for Vida, it was the day her life and dreams were ending. The second the two emerald moons arise and overlap, she was to be crowned queen. She sat down at her dresser and brushed her hair, more and more thoughts clouding her mind. "who in their right mind would long for a life full of sleeping and everybody doing everything for you? A life where the kingdom's history constricts you although you are supposed to have power?" Her eyes settled on her bookshelf behind her. All the books she'd ever read as a child, now probably being thrown in the trash and being replaced by more dresses or mirrors. "The kingdom treats their queens with respect, why would you want useless sheets of paper with  words on them, when you can be the most wealthy person in all of Zorrow?" The words her father had said when she was eight moons old circulated  her mind, although obviously she had never listened to them. He had once been a joyful man, but soon he had become a different person. Vida guessed power had taken its toll on him and suffocated him, like it did all the rulers before, turning him into an arrogant tyrant who wanted nothing more than more money.
"Hi"
Vida stiffly jumped at the sound of the voice behind her, her head snapping around to see the young girl standing in the doorway, her expression softening as she smiled "Aria, please don't sneak up on me like that, the gods will think you're trying to kill me" The small girl giggled as she settled into her older sister's lap.Aria looked more like her father, possessing his light blonde hair, and blue eyes whereas Vida looked more like their mother, having dark hair and light eyes."Vi, guess what? Geni said that I can go with you guys to the charbrow headquarters and watch the soldiers fight again" Vida smiled down at her sister, pride filling her heart. Aria was the type to follow in her footsteps which didn't seem to annoy Vida in any way. She always wanted to be part of the charbrow guild, the protectors. She closed her eyes and envisioned herself wearing the uniform, from the light brown leather jacket, to the emerald revolvers (yes the obsession with the colour green was a bit concerning). Just to wear the guild badge would bring such joy to her. Aria spoke once again, wondering why Vida had stayed silent "Vida? Are you okay?" Vida opened her eyes again and looked down at her. "That's great Aria, wonderful news" Another head popped into the room and she saw the face of Genevive, her best friend since literally the dawn of time. "There you are Aria, you really shouldn't be running in these castle halls, you could hurt yourself hmm?" Genevieve had short brown hair which was usually two braids pinned onto her head sort of resembling a crown. She was considered a beauty because of her distinctive dark glowing skin, and her deep hazel eyes, which somehow felt like they were looking into your soul whenever you made eye contact with her.She was wearing a long golden corset dress for the occasion, her smile contrasting with Vida's solemn expression. Genevive scooped up Aria in her arms, carrying her on her back.
"I'm guessing she already told you"
Vida replied in a monotone voice "yep, don't need mind reading powers to know that" Genevive simply shrugged in response and made her way towards the door, with Aria still on her back, before saying "you know, you don't have to follow in the kingdoms footseps if you don't want to. You are queen. Be the queen you want to be, not the queen everyone else wants you to be" she took one more glance at Vida from the corner of her eye before turning the doorknob and walking out of the room. It always seemed like Genevive could read her mind. Vida found herself thinking about her childhood, back when they both had no responsibilities, and they could just run wild and be young. Back when the king was her Dad, when her mum didn't have to hide in her bedroom to cry. Back when she didn't have to worry about being queen. Trying to brush off the feeling of sadness she was getting, she looked outside into the green fog once more, realising that it was mirroring the feeling she was getting.

the feeling of being lost.
