"Vida, are you ready yet?" Vida took one last glance at herself in the mirror before replying "yes mother, I'm ready". She had put on her green corset dress, her hair put up with an emerald gold clip. She swallowed away the lump in her throat starting to form and got up quickly and headed to the door of her room, stepping outside. She was quickly met with the smile of her mother and another woman that looked around her age. She had very pale and fair skin, with the slightest bit of red blush dusted over them, and kind soft greyish eyes that did the whole 'looking into your soul thing' just like Genevive's. Realising the awkward silence, Leona spoke up. "Uh... Vida this is Florence, she came early for the ceremony tonight, all the way from the kingdom of Crystal Moor"
The woman spoke up in a calming gentle voice " It's a pleasure meeting you" Vida started to analyse her once again after getting the small amount of background information. The people of Crystal Moor were known to be honest , kind and generous, having a huge respect for nature and animals. Although Vida had grown up believing they were half witted and gullible idiots, who probably only named their kingdom 'Crystal Moor' because the name sounded pretty. Vida tried her best to put on a smile before replying "the pleasures all mine". Leona avoided eye contact with Vida before clearing her throat. "Vida, would you like to show Florence, around the castle for a bit? Her father, king Griffin, is running a bit late" Vida looked in her mother's direction in disbelief before turning back to Florence. She tried to maintain her fake smile, not wanting to come off as rude to their new guest. "Sure why not?" Florence warmly smiled back before linking her arms with Vida and walking with her down the hall.Vida repeatedly looked over at Florence as they walked, arms still linked.
At first she was looking at her to see if she would say anything, the silence being unbearable, but soon, she found herself just looking at her face in curiosity. She had very light and innocent features, making her face interesting and inviting to look at. Vida turned her head to take one more glance at her, just when Florence's grey confused eyes seemed to be looking back at her. Vida stiffly jumped, realising that she'd been caught, smiling out of embarrassment. "Sorry, I didn't mean to stare" Florence's face broke out into a wide smile, while she shook her head " no, no it's alright, everyone gets curious, sometimes" Vida slowly nodded looking off onto the side, a slight feeling of jealousy rising within her. She couldn't help it, Florence was not only beautiful, but kind as well.Just as Vida was about to try and start the conversation again, a deep voice sounded behind them, startling both of the girls. " Princess Vida, I assume you're heading towards- oh sorry did I startle you?"
Vida turned around so quickly that she nearly threw Florence across the room. Benjamin Shaw. He was the youngest soldier in the Charbrow guild, and someone Vida looked up to for a while. He had black hair which usually was just above his shoulder, but today it was tied back into a ponytail. He was also a very tall person, towering over both Vida and Florence, who were already at average heights. He had on the formal CBG uniform which was a dark green and black tail coat like jacket, with gold lining around the collar and matte black pants. He also had a very stern and serious face, which was intimidating for the people that saw him. "Oh no Benjamin it's fine,we just didn't see you coming" Vida said, smoothing out her dress to hide her embarrassment. Benjamin's gaze shifted to Florence who was next to her, who was mildly squirming in her spot. Benjamin's voice was level, not showing any emotion at all as he said "So you must be the guest that came early," he held out a firm hand, "nice to meet you, my name Benjamin Shaw, call me Ben, and I'm part of the charbrow guild, and you are?" Florence replied in a shaky voice saying
"m- my name, my name is.... uh it's"
"Florence" Vida said, sending a bewildered look in Florence's direction. Ben let out a small smile, firmly shaking Florence's hand. "Well, I'll be off to practice, I'm sure you'll be practicing for the ceremony Vida?" He walked away with his hands laced together behind his back and his head up, probably late to practice because of his quick pace. Vida looked at Florence again, head cocked to the side. "Are you alright Florence? You seemed to be having a panic attack or something" Florence took a few deep breaths, obviously still stunned by the encounter. She turned back to Vida, flustered.
"I'm sorry, I think somethings wrong with me-"
""Princess, Florence? I need to immediately escort you the main hall area" "
Florence jumped, turning around once again at the sound of the voice, not knowing it was Genevive. Genevive had a frantic expression on her face, which caused Vida to be filled with concern.
"Genevieve what's going on?"Genevive paused for a second, looking Vida into the eyes
"Vida..... the moons are up early"
"W-what, that can't be possible" Genevive looked at Vida grimly, before speaking again.
"The crystal moons get risen by the gods at midnight, to symbol the night that the zorrow warriors came together and formed the kingdom-"
"Gen, I already know about that, why is this happening now?"
Genevive looked at the ground in sorrow, her eyes slightly darkening and her shoulders slacking.
"Just tell me-"
"It is a warning"
Hearing this, Florence's face became a pale white, her eyes widening in fear. What does this mean, why are the gods themselves sending a warning? Genevive quickly tugged at Florence's sleeve frantically "We need to go to the main hall now," she turned back to Vida, eyes looking at her pleadingly "Vida, I'm sorry I wish I could tell you more, but we need to make haste" Still holding Florence's arm, Genevive ran down the corridor in the direction of the main hall, leaving Vida stranded in the middle of the pathway, alone with her thoughts. Just my luck, I didn't even want to be queen in the first place and now there's a warning from the Gods themselves on my coronation day. Vida felt herself slowly start to make her way towards the hall, one slow step at a time, caught up in her emotions. She somehow felt scared and anxious,as if something bad was going to happen, the butterflies in her stomach running wild. The green light from the mist illuminated the halls, projecting into the stained glass windows, the shadows making delicate patterns throughout the hall. Within a few seconds Vida found herself at the entrance of the main hall, all four of the kingdom's royals watching her as she entered. Genevive stood next to Leona in the front row, signalling for Vida to walk forward. She took calculated steps towards the front platform, the king standing at the front, sending a disapproving glare in her direction. She finally made her way to the platform/altar steps, carefully sitting down on the throne, the fabric of the chair being stiff and itchy. Soon her father's voice boomed saying " we are gathered here today, to celebrate my daughter's coronation, although it isn't much of anything to celebrate about. The Gods of Zorrow have made it very clear that today isn't to be a joyous day, but we can do nothing about it. *sigh* so, now, I appoint princess Vida as queen of Zorrow" Vida closed her eyes, counting down to when she would feel cold, heavy metal on her head.
"Three, Two-"
"YOUR HIGHNESS"
A unison of stunned gasps filled the room, and everyone turned to the flustered man in the doorway. King Otis was furious "What is so important that it had to interrupt the coronation-"
"THE BLOOD CHALICE HAS BEEN STOLEN"
The once silent and serene royals sitting in the aisles became frantic, running around the hall like headless chickens. A flurry of them ran towards the door, toppling, and trampling over each other in the process. Panic filled Vida's stomach once again, and she felt a hand tugging her up from the throne. She looked up and saw Genevive's eyes , seeing something she has never in her life seen before. Fear. "Vida we need to go and find Aria, she's in danger" Before Vida could question why, she was tugged along through the back door, and through the corridor in the direction of Aria's room. Leona seemed to be there before they were there, at the doorway sobbing. Vida felt the outer corners of her eyes start to burn. She struggled to keep her tears at bay as she felt them running down her cheeks. Genevieve stood solemnly behind her, looking at the ground. In denial, Vida called out again, her voice cracking "ARiA*hiccup* ARIA". She looked into the room, at the empty bed, the covers still unmade, and the window open, green mist flooding into the room.I'll try to make the next chapter more eventful so that you're more engaged. Trust me it gets better. Don't forget to like, vote and comment.:)
