The 10 days Subway

9th day

“Can we talk?” – Says my father, who is sitting on my bed.

“I suppose” – I say wiping down my eyes and covering my mouth,

“I know you skipped school yesterday, you want to tell me something about that?”

“No”

“No, uh? Ok”

He slaps me across the face so fast that I didn’t even see it coming. Did I deserve this? No, I don’t think so. If he understood that I did it for Megan than he wouldn’t be so fucking mad! But I can’t talk to him because he doesn’t understand anything, like mom. My father holds me by my shirt and says:

“Get up, you’re not going to school today, worse, you’re going to hang out with me.”

“No, I want to go to school dad!”

“Too late, bud. Let’s go!”

I put on my Bulls jacket and my Blackhawks cap. I rush downstairs trying to tell mom first of what dad’s going to do, but he already told her. We exit through the kitchen door and into the car we go. I try to open the door in the back, but my dad says “In the front”. I open the front door as he starts the car. As my father drives I start looking at my hand, trying to avoid his sight. He says:

“Are you going to talk, or should I?”

“I don’t know”

“Well ok then”

He opens the door on the passenger side and says “well get out”. I stare at him and I slam the door shut. I say:

“I hate you”

“Why, why do you hate me so much?”

“Because… ugh!”

“What? I can’t understand you, bud, speak louder.”

“It’s just that I want to see her!” –I say as I start crying.

“See who?”

“My girlfriend!”

“You have a girlfriend?”

“Yeah, but your risking my opportunity to be with her.”

“Hey, I’m not risking anything, if she truly wants to be with you than she is going to, but don’t blame me for some girl dislikes.”

“Oh, she likes me, I can promise you that!”

“Yeah? That’s why she makes you skip school? Or does she think that you’re a genius boy? Because you’re not!”

“You’re the worst!” - I say crying.

“I’m just trying to tell you that some girl that makes you skip classes it’s no good!”

“She didn’t make me! I wanted to! She was trying to avoid her ex at her school so she didn’t want to go that day!”

“Yesterday?”

“Yeah”

“Well let me tell you something bud, she isn’t right for you! A girl that’s in love with you doesn’t run away from his ex.”

“Yeah? Well what does she do instead?”

“She goes to school because she doesn’t give a flying fuck of his ex boyfriend that is what she would do.”

“I know she loves me!”

“Whatever you say, bud. Where here.”

I look to my right and I see my school. He drop me off at the station so I could talk to her. I say:

“How did you know I met her on the train?”

“I just know.”

“Thanks dad”

“You’re welcome, bud”

I get out of the car and I see her on the station. I walk straight to her and I say:

“Do you love your ex?”

“Well good morning to you too.” – Says Megan

“Answer the question.”

“Why would you ask me that?”

“Just, please”

“No, ok? What’s up with you this morning?”

“I’m sorry, it’s just that my dad.”

“What about him?”

“Nothing, it’s stupid.”

“No, tell me!”

-“He thinks that you’re in love with your ex”

“Oh does he really? Well I’m not, your father has serious problems, you know?”

“I know. Would you like to go to the movies tomorrow night?”

“Yeah, I would love that”

“Well ask me on Facebook, ok?”

“Yeah, I’ll text you the hour.”

“Bye”

“Bye”

We kiss, she leaves, and I walk. Tomorrow’s going to be a special day!
