[ 3rd person p.o.v ]
The bright Led lights, the sweet smells coming from the kitchen and old pop music filled the colorful diner. The vintage posters, the jukeboxes and vinyls were placed around the small restaurant. Your close friend, Kai, thought it would be the perfect idea to bring you to a retro-themed diner to celebrate you getting an A on one of your ethics quizzes. When he proposed the idea to you, you were excited to be able to get some one on one time with Kai in a more traditional setting.
[ Your p.o.v ]
"Thank you for bringing me here." I said warmly, breaking the silence between me and Kai. Kai looked up from his menu, giving me a kind look. "No problem, y/n. By the way, do you know what you're gonna order?" He asked. "Uhm, no actually. I was thinking about the-" I quickly looked down at my menu, "American burger and fries, but I don't think I can afford it so-" Kai stared at me blankly. "I'll pay for it." He said bluntly. "Wh.. what? No, I couldn't let you!" I replied while closing my menu. "No no no, I insist. Plus, you did really good on your ethics quiz! I know how hard it was. Trust me, I'll pay." Kai stated while putting his hand on mine. I could feel my face turning red but before I could say anything, the waitress rolled over to us. Her roller skates making a funny noise as she stopped at our table.
[ Kai p.o.v ]
I have no problem paying for y/n's food. In all honesty this isn't just me congratulating them for their quiz score. I think I want to tell them how I feel about them. We've been friends for quiet some time now so I think I should be honest with them! But, would this ruin it? "What would you like to drink?" I heard a peppy voice call out, pulling me away from my thoughts. "Water, please." Y/n replied as the waitress nodded and scribbled on her notepad. "I'll have a sprite." I said with a smile. "Coming right up!" The waitress shouted as she rolled back to the kitchen. "Hey, don't you think it's cool that the servers here have roller skates as part of their uniforms?" Y/n commented, holding their head in their palm. "Yeah, I think it's cool. Must be hard for the people who can't skate, huh?" I laughed, picking up my menu again. "Why'd you bring me here, Kai?" Y/n asked bluntly.
[ Your p.o.v ]
I know Kai didn't bring me here just for my ethics quiz. We could've just celebrated at my place like we usually do. Plus, we usually eat at fast food restaurants since they're more accessible. "For your ethics quiz, don't you remember?" Kai answered, not looking up from his menu. "No, the real reason! Don't bs me with that 'good grades' crap." I responded. Kai put his menu down, sighing. "Fine, do you really want to know?" He asked me with a cold stare. I exhaled sharply, "Yes."
[ Kai p.o.v ]
I guess we're doing this. "I like you y/n. Like, a lot. I brought you here to tell you," I said, my face becoming flushed. "You're the first real friend I've made in a long time and-" I managed to say before being cut off by y/n. "I like you too." Y/n said, smiling warmly at me. I began staring into y/n's eyes, noticing every little detail about them. Have they always sparkled like this? Suddenly our faces became inches apart, and now only centimeters. "Can I kiss you?" I asked, y/n nodded slowly, granting me permission. I leaned in and kissed them, caressing their cheek gently. Eventually I let go of the kiss, turning back to my menu.
[ 3rd person p.o.v ]
For a while, the two sat in silence, pretending nothing happened. Soon enough, they ordered their food and had their menus taken away. Now, they couldn't pretend they were deciding on what to order just to avoid conversation. Eventually Kai broke the silence by clearing his throat. Y/n opened their mouth to speak but was silenced by Kai talking first. "Y/n, you are talented, smart and funny. You always manage to make me smile," Kai blurted out, before pausing. "I'll get to the point, would you like to go out with me?" Y/n smiled, grabbing his hand. "Kai," Y/n began, intertwining their fingers with Kai's, "I'd love to."
