Old Friends
I could hear the rushing water through the trees as I got closer to the waterfall. I could feel the soft mist on my face already. It was so cool and refreshing. I felt the excitement building in my gut as I came closer. I see this waterfall every few days but I still cannot get over its beauty.
I saw the tall beautiful willow trees that line the entrance to the falls. The vines that swayed gently in the breeze was quite a sight in itself. I could gaze at this sight alone for hours but alas I could not. I had work to do so I needed to make it fast.
I took off my white cloak and hung it on a nearby branch. I set down my satchel and took out the good smelling liquid the witch made for me so that I could clean myself better. I grabbed the wooden bucket and dipped it in the sparkling blue water and filled it to the brim so I could take it to the village later that night.
I took a good look at the waterfall as I undressed. It was very tall. The rocks around it were a bluish gray except for the places that had grown bright green moss. The water sparkled with the sun as the water fell from up above. There was a light mist all around me as I dipped my bare feet into the water. It was cold. A great temperature for a hot day such as that one. It got much cooler as night fell so it was a good thing I was doing it then.
I walked into the falls and quickly washed myself off. I was saddened when it was time for me to get out of the water but it had to be done. I stepped out of the water and put my dress back on. Usually I would wash my dress and cloak as well but I was running short on time that day.
I put the soap back in to the satchel and grabbed my cloak. As I reached for the water bucket I heard a noise. I dropped everything and hid behind a large gray bolder. Well, today was a great day to not bring my sword with me. I thought to myself.
I tried hard to listen and identify the sounds I was hearing but it was difficult to hear over the roar of the falls. After a little while the noise stopped. I looked around the corner to make sure it was clear and a big white horse with large brown eyes was starring me in the face. Startled by this beast, I stumbled backwards and fell on my butt in the shallow water.
The animal seemed to find this amusing as it swung its huge head up and down and made a noise that almost sounded like laughter. This irritated me quite a bit. Not only did this animal slow me down by scarring me, but now my dress was wet and I would now need to ask Mary to blow it dry for me because I still wasn’t very good at fast wind spells.
I made a grunting noise and splashed at the horse. The horse dipped it grand head into the water and looked at me evilly. It then swung its head up and made a large wave come towards me. My arms instinctively flew up to protect my face but I was still drenched by the blow. The horse laughed again and stomped its heavy hooves. I glared at the horse as it walked to a willow tree and bit off a long thick vine. It pranced back over to me and put the vine in the water. I was shocked. How does this beast know to do that? I had to admit, this animal was very intelligent. I grabbed a hold of vine and the horse began to step backwards, pulling me out of the water.
I grabbed my bag and the bucket of water and stormed out of the clearing. I heard the horse’s heavy hooves trailing behind me. Rolling my eyes, I began to walk faster and then made a tight left, passed a large tree. I looked back to see the horse was still there. I marched towards it with my hands out in front of me. I tried to push the horse away as I grunted at it and I wished that I could yell at it to leave me alone. It walked back to me a leaned its white head into my hand and made a happy noise. No, you stupid animal, I am not trying to pet you! I thought as I pushed it away once more. Again, it nudged me with its head and made that sound. Ugh, fine. I turned angrily and stomped off to the cave with the horse still on my heels.
