Felicity wore a red scarf in a black and white world. She was not alone, the population of Prodigies were rising slowly. By now there were over 30 in a town of 70.
She learnt to face the fact they would never be respected, never be loved...
As long as the shameful scarf was draped around her neck, she was outcast.Felicity was a prodigy of light.
Her skin was as pale as the moon, giving the illusion of her glowing. Her silver eyes sparkle with inner light. Framing her face is flat black hair that falls to her chest.Felicity'a silver eyes stared at the dark sky, flecked with light.
She loved the starts, they made her feel welcomed. She longed to be a star herself- free, beautiful, flying high above the rest.Closing her eyes, she sighed. The grey toned brick wall was chilly on her back as she slid down it to a squatting position. Shooting her feet out, she sat down.
The Government has recently shut down the home for prodigy children, arresting the owner. The six children, one of them being Felicity, were scattered throughout the streets.
Since then, Felicity had made her home in a small hut made out of scrap metal in a back alley, barricaded by fallen rubble.
Beside her was Alyce, who, being 15, was one year younger than Felicity. The pair sat across from each other in the dark alleyway. A low mumbling sounded from Alyce's stomach.
"Hungry?" Felicity asked, voice dull and cracked. Alyce glanced up to Felicity, who, strangely, had a look of serenity on her face.
Opening one eye, Felicity saw Alyce watching her.
"What?" Felicity shrugged.
"Nothing..." Alyce muttered, "I am hungry though..."
With a nod, Felicity rose again to her feet, walking towards the barricade. Alyce leapt to her feet, following close behind. The two of them squeezed through a little gap in the rubble wall, emerging into the street.
As they walked down the grey sidewalks, the citizens cast horrible glares at them.
Ashamed, Felicity wrapped her scarf around her face, Alyce doing the same.As they walked past, shopkeepers shut and locked their doors, blocking the Prodigies from entering the shops.
A group of patrol officers marched down the street in strict formation. Felicity's heart raced as she looked for a place to hide.
Being a Prodigy wasn't illegal, you cannot go to jail for it, but most officers would beat the prodigies, showing them who the superior race was. Humans were cruel.
Thinking quick, Felicity ran to the wall, taking three steps up the wall, she pushed herself backwards, landing on the awning of a shop. Watching silently as Alyce disappeared into the background, now only a faint outline.
The officers walked by, glancing around for trouble. Felicity pressed herself against the wall, jealous that Alyce could just turn invisible in the blink of an eye.
Waiting a few minutes after the officers disappeared, Felicity hopped down from the awning.
Alyce appeared behind her, and with a quick and cautious glance around, they began down the street. They walked along and after a few hateful looks and a couple closing shops, they arrive at the part of town destroyed by nature.
Overgrown trees that crashed through buildings, and moss that grew on the streets caused the town to evacuate this area.
Felicity stepped up to a large wall of vines, soon joined by Alyce.Felicity pushed aside the vines and squeezed through to planks of wood. She was greeted by the scent of tomato soup and five large tables scattered throughout the abandoned house.
At least twenty people bearing red scarves sat amounts the tables, spoons in hand, slurping down the salty soup.
A large man with a scruffy beard and a dirty apron smiled at Felicity and Alyce from behind the counter.
Felicity nodded her hello, but Alyce returned the smile with a little wave. They soon sat at the table, on their second bowls of soup. Alyce and one of the human chefs chatted away, while Felicity sat in silence.
Across the room, a young male prodigy sat cross armed, eyes rolling over the crowd, landing on Felicity, who returned the gaze.
The man stood up and made his way over to Felicity.
