Chapter two

The day my mom died

/4years ago/

"Get off me" I panted between laughs as Jeffy mercilessly tickled me on the ground of the playfield

"Say you love me" He demands seriously still tickling me

"Island view" I said it's a trick I always used when I didn't want to say I love you and it always worked until now

"Oh come on, you think I wouldn't figure that you have been tricking me with your little line I'm never falling for that trick again" He says still on top of me tickling me

"Jeffy get off her!" Jayla yells running to my rescue and tackling Jeff off me. I couldn't have been more grateful, this was usual; her saving me from her brother

She got up and handed me her hand I took it and pulled me up the second we made eye contact we both burst out laughing falling back to the ground

"Girl power!!!" We fist bump laughing at him

"Guys it's time to go" Mrs.O'connor commands walking towards us; she had been there for a while she was waiting on my mom to come since she promised to pick me up

I normally went home with the twins whenever we came to the park but today was the day mom was taking me to the ice-cream parlour and I was so excited

"Bye guys, bye miss O'connor" I wave them goodbye and they both wave bad

Jeffy waited until they weren't looking he blew me a kiss and my face turned to a billion shades of red, butterflies instantly filling my insides

"Kenny how was your day?" My mom asked hugging me

"It was great mom, Jayla even thought me that when a boy likes you he always ignores you but at the same time does anything to get your attention" I rambled my 13 year old mouth not having any control at all

"She's gonna be such a heart breaker one day?" She chuckles out "So who has been ignoring while tryna get you attention?"

"I don't know but one thing'sforsure Jeffy hasn't been cause he play with me all day and never ignores me" Those were one of the perks about my mom and dad I could tell them anything, literally

"I think he likes you but whatever you say" Mom whispers tapping my nose and I giggled knowing that I had the hugest crush on him "If you still want ice-cream we better get going"

We drove to the ice-cream parlour right down the street and I ran out of the car like I had just seen Santa giving away gifts

I didn't even wait for my mom to get out before I placed my order "Can I get a scoop of hot fudge and a scoop of chocolate with gummy bears and a cherry on top please" I order excitedly in one breath

"Hold on there young missy" The cashier laughs while placing my order

My mom paid for her ice-cream and mine and we sat on the outside for hours talking and laughing as we watched families and couples come in and out of the parlour some looking sad while others looked happy

'Atleast I'm one of those happy persons' I thought

"Let's hurry home and get your homework done okay lil bunny"

"Okay" I nod getting up

We got into the car prepared to drive home because that was the plan

We were on the highway listening Arianna Grande's 7 rings yelling at the top of our lungs and that was when it happened

A truck came speeding it hit into the back of the car sending us forward but our seat belts saved us from shattering the windscreen

I thought that was it that the driver would just stop but that didn't happen. The car had turned which mean the side of the car was facing the truck and the truck hit my mom's side of the car flipping it into the air

It was almost as if time froze and we were the only ones moving, I felt a rush of panic go through me the adrenaline took over I though this was it 'I was going to die'

The car landed on my mom's side and she cried out in pain splinters were everywhere on her face

Splinters were all over my face too

"Mom I'm gonna get you out" I manage to grunt out through the pain, I pushed my door open but I struggled to get out because my foot was trapped but I did and I ripped the cut out some more

When I got out smoke was already fuming from the engine of the car and I felt helpless persons gathered around looking some seemed to be calling the cops but no one dared to come close

I tried pushing it off the side but I was too weak, I tried pulling her out but I was still to weak, I was too weak. I had never felt so helpless in my life 

Her eyes started closing but before they did completely she whispered out her last words through her pain

"I love you baby girl" Those were my mother's last words

"Mom don't leave me, open your eyes" I scream in horror my tears burning the scars on my face

I could hear the faint noise of the sirens approaching the scene but they were too late

She was my mom I should've saved her she was my responsibility but I wasn't good enough to save her I wasn't strong enough and I wasn't fast enough either

She fought in the hospital for another two days and then; her fight was over
