Ch 1

Ada Carmichael stood looking at her phone willing it to ring. She had just broken up with Gideon but was it a real breakup? She wasnt really sure. She knew he was going to call her, he always called her. After a moment she grew tired of the silence and threw her phone on her bed where she collapsed beside it. He never called.

When Ada woke up the next day, it was from a call from her best friend Bernie. "Its 7am Bernadette would could possibly be so important to tell me on a Saturday at 7am?" Ada sat up in her bed and wiped the sleep from her eyes.

"Well I know that Gideon didnt call and now I know why," Bernie stated. Ada came to full attention. "Okay color me intrigued," Ada replied as she laid back against her headboard, phone held to her ear.

"Well, as it turns out, he peen deep in Alexandra Higgins," Bernie told her best friend. Ada felt her heart drop. She was so certain that all they needed was a break. Some air. She hadnt expected him to jump straight to Alexandra Higgins! "Yo, Ada you there?" Bernie quiered.

Ada closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Yeah, I'm here, just processing you know?" she replied. She could hear Bernie smacking her gum impatiently. Sometimes she wondered why she was friends with Bernie. But then it was moments like this that she truly understood why. Bernie was the only thing in her life that was less likely to change. She was a gossip straight out of the tabloids but she was a reliable source.

"Wanna process over smoothies at the mall?" Bernie asked. Ada really didnt feel like doing so but one never said no to Bernadette Adler. "Yeah I'll meet you there," Ada said after a moment. Bernie shot out a time and a place to meet, encouraging Ada that it was a good idea to get out and explore the waters were all the fish in the seas were.

The girls spent most of their time in the food court of the local mall staring at the boys that they had unfortunately grew up with wonder past them in groups bigger than girls normally travelled in. Ada slurped her mango pineapple smoothie and was listening half assed to whatever nonsense that Bernie was going on about. "Its an app," Bernie said. Ada looked at her best friend. Knowing that half assed listening was going to get her in trouble she continued. "Whats an app?" she asked hesitantly.

"Seriously, Ada, I swear you dont pay attention to me half of the time," Bernie huffed. She took her phone out of her pocket. "Its an anonymous app, you write things like secrets or what not and people reply. You should try it. Maybe meet some new people keep your mind off..."Bernie trailed off as Gideon walked into the food court.

Ada followed Bernie's gaze and she felt as if all the air in the room be sucked out of her body. He was walking hand in hand with Alexandra when just yesterday he had given her a kiss and then told her they were through. "Look we can go," Bernie said softly. Sometimes Bernie could be sweet. "Tell me more about this app," Ada replied as she turned her attention back to her best friend. Better to let go and ease the pain now than to sit on it and wait for the wound to fester.

Later that night, Ada was staring at her phone, the app downloaded and waiting for her to make her first statement. She stared up at the ceiling. Maybe Bernie was right. She needed a distraction. New friends. Not that she wanted to replace Bernie but she definitely need more friends.

She flipped over on the bed onto her stomach and wrote down the first thing she could think of that came to mind.

"I'm still in love with my ex," and from there her phone blew up and she knew right then and there that she couldnt look back now.
