more people? seriously? there's already enough people searching for this gold. there might not even be enough to split evenly. i cant believe i'm going on a whole ass search for gold with a couple of people that probably think were bullshitting. i don't know about lauren but if i'm being completely honest the only reason i agreed to including them in our little search was for two reasons: so they don't find it before us and in the hope finding the gold would be easier with more hands on deck

"i'm just saying we shouldn't split off into groups!" noah exclaimed. let me tell you that kid can whine. how old is he five?

"noah stop being such a baby"

yes i agree with you kenz geez.

"i'm sorry but have you never seen the movies!?"

this kid really just-ok

"well if we split off into groups i know who's not going together" asher said and he cut in between kenzie and noah

adventurous and paranoia. yeah i don't blame him for breaking that apart

"let's do this. lauren and noah, kenz and i, and john and anns" asher announced

this is gonna be interesting

annie and i were in one of the upstairs bedrooms. as we were grouping up prior to we all discussed that unless we found anything useful we'd meet downstairs in an hour. now yes lauren and i have checked this house out before but the others wanted to do a quick run through. didn't make much sense to me but whatever

"sooo..how long have you and lauren been searching for this?" annie asked trying to make small talk

"well we started towards the end of last summer so about a month maybe two considering we only come down to the beach in the summer which seems obvious enough" i replied as i pulled my phone out and turned the flash on

"well that's definitely longer than would've spent looking for anything" she laughed nervously

"mhm" i said as i shined the light from my phone under the bed and searched

"did you even hear what i said?"

i picked my head up from checking under the bed "if i'm being honest no not at all"

"geez alright. someone clearly isnt trying to make small talk" she announced as she crossed her arms

"you'd be right i'm not. so take the hint and keep looking" i spoke as i got up from my knees walked to the closet

"wow attitude much" i noticed annie stand up from the corner of my eye

"i'm not here to make friends" i said as i opened the closet door

"oh really because i couldn't tell. thanks for stating the obvious"

i turned to her "just because i'm not being friendly doesn't mean you need to get all in your feelings about it. just move on and contribute to the search"

she rolled her eyes "fine"

"fine" i stated as i turned back to the closet

not much time passed until my foot hit on what felt like a boulder in the closet

"fuck!" i mumbled just loud enough for annie to hear

she let out a small petty laugh "serves you right you asshole"

i ignored her and aimed the flashlight on my phone towards the floor to find a small wooden box

"what the hell?" i attempted to pick up the box but it was too heavy "annie could you help me over here?" i asked

"yeah right! like i'm gonna help you and your rude ass" she took a seat on the bed

i turned to her and fake smiled and she was quick to return it

i bent down and pulled the box out of the closet rather than pick it up. i opened it up and

wow! bricks! useless bricks! actually they might be useful for this annie situation

annie looked down in the box and squinted. i looked up at her confused. she then got down from the bed and got down in her knees next to me.

"what are you-" i tried to ask but she quickly cut me off

"1476"

i looked at her as i waited for her to explain

"roman numerals! duh!" she said as she pointed to the faint markings on the bricks "that has to be a code for something! do you know of anything in this house that might require a code?!" she asked eagerly

i stayed silent for a few second but then remembered of a discovery lauren and i made last summer

"the safe! the safe! it has to be the safe!" i exclaimed

"great! where's the safe?!" annie asked as she took out her phone to write down the numbers

i jumped up and pulled her up from the floor as well. she looked up at me quickly with a small smile

"follow me!"
