im meeting up with a boy

"hey do we have any plans today" annie asked as she sat with her friends on the beach

kenzie turned to annie as she blocked the sun from shining in her eyes "no why?"

"no reason" annie shrugged

"there's definitely a reason" asher readjusted himself in his chair and turned to annie "no one asks their friends what plans they have for the day for no reason for it"

"well i think we should normalize it" annie said making asher laugh

"normalize it and make something very suspicious normal right? because suspicious actions should definitely be normalized. you could be asking that question so you can go and commit arson later tonight for all i know"

kenzie shrugged "he does bring up a good point. i mean not that you would do that but if you were the type of person then the normalization of the phrase 'no reason' would be very flawed"

annie shook her head and looked out at the ocean in front of them "you two are idiots"

after what seemed like endless hours night had finally fallen. annie spent most of the day trying to come up with an excuse as to why she was going out tonight. nothing. she had absolutely nothing. all she could do was walk out the house and hope she wasn't questioned. which is exactly what she did.

"annie where are you going?"

she clearly failed but lucky for her kenzie was the only one who caught her

"oh uhm i'm just going out"

"out where?" kenzie asked as she looked away from the screen

annie hesitated before responding

"ok kenz promise me you'll keep your mouth shut"

"ok? i promise"

"i'm meeting up with a boy" annie whispered

kenzie was confused at first. it took her a few moments to process the words that came out of her friends mouth but once she did a bright smile appeared on her face

"so your going on a little date?"

"well no it's not a date. he just asked me to go to the carnival with him" annie looked down at her hands nervously

"awh look at you! your nervous!" kenzie's smile grew wider

"look kenz i'd love to sit an talk about this 'date' but i should really go"

"oh right right ok. but before you go who is this mystery man?"

annie had to act quickly on her feet. she had to decide if she wanted kenzie to know who she was going out with or not

"well if i told you who it was that wouldn't make him a mystery anymore now would it?"
