"Henry! Over here!"
It was almost at an instant that the 6ft tall male known as Henry Stickmin noticed who the voice belonged to. It wasn't exactly a deep voice, more on the higher-side. Yet not chipmunk high, high as in for a male his age.
This voice belong to Charles Calvin, Henry's best friend. They started to hang out more frequently after their mutual interest of friendship was brought to their attention during one of their meetings.
But that was over two years ago that the thought of befriending the other male came to their attention. They started off as your average friendship, but over the period of two years, they became almost inseparable.
That applied to their other friend, Ellie Rose. She was the third member that made up what they called 'Team Triple Threat' or just 'Triple Threat.' Their name implied that if they were to be sent on a mission against you, you would be screwed.
And its not like they were wrong. The trio make up an unstoppable team.
"Charles! Hey!" Henry spun his body to be facing the direction of Charles as he spoke. He was accompanied by Ellie, who was seemingly just minding her business, admiring the flower bed to her left. Sure, they had this meeting arranged, but Henry still felt an element of surprise that they actually decided to show up.
"Get over here, we've been waiting for you!" Charles exclaims, gesturing with his hand for Henry to join the other two. Henry accepted the request with a simple nod, approaching them at a relatively quick pace.
Ellie looked up after noticing Henry's presence, giving him a small wave. Henry gave a wave back, yet focused more on Charles than her. It was nothing against Ellie, Henry could just watch Charles ramble for hours about god knows what and he'd be interested throughout the whole thing.
"How have you two been?" Henry questioned, shoving his relatively cold hands into his pockets. For a typical day in autumn, it was kind of cold.
"We've been good!" Charles exclaimed, looking up at the other male, "Ellie and I have been going on missions together, and not going to lie, she's so much cooler in battle than you'd think!"
That sentence made Henry feel something in his chest. It was a feeling he was unfamiliar with.
It specifically flared when Charles mentioned that Ellie and him had been going on missions together, just the two of them, as well as how he defined her as cool.
Maybe he wanted to be in Ellie's shoes?
Ellie seemed to giggle off what Charles said, playfully elbowing him in the process. "You make me out like some kind of Goddess, Charles."
Charles chuckles, with a small smile growing on his face. The two of them seemed alot closer than they previously were.
It struck a question in Henry's mind. Were the two of them dating? It's something you can assume by how they act around eachother, yet you can't go around screaming it like it was a true fact. A large majority of times people are just mistaken. So Henry was surely just jumping to conclusions?
That may strike a question for you. Why did it matter to Henry? Surely he would be happy for his two best friends?
Well, in some ways, he would be. He'd be happy that the two of them were happy. Yet he himself wouldn't be on the inside.
Well, over the time Charles and Henry bonded, Henry fell for the other male. And by fell, he fell hard. Like the 'I will do anything for you' hard. He didn't know if confessing was the best idea, seeing as their friendship would likely crumble apart if he did. To Henry's knowledge, Charles was straight as a line, and that was the same on Charles' mind.
Charles was oblivious that Henry was bisexual, the only confirmed sexuality of his friend group he knew was Ellie's.
"Hen, you still with us?" Henry snapped out from his thoughts to the real world, revealing a shorter, headphone wearing boy standing inches away from him. Henry locked eyes with the boy, who seemed like he was completely okay with being that close to another male.
Henry on the other hand, was embarrassed. A blush crept onto his face, as he gently pushed Charles away from him.
"Yeah, Sorry, I was just thinking." Henry shrugged, looking over the two others two the flowerbed. The other two had curious expressions on their faces, clearly showing they were going to pry into Henry's mind.
"About what?" Honestly, Henry expected that sentence. What he didn't think about was how he was supposed to respond. Like, what does he say? That he was thinking about Charles specifically?
"The Toppat Clan. So, nothing really important to the whole 'hang out' thing.." Henry didn't focus on much else then the flowerbed. Compared to the other two, he was pretty tall, so if he were to put his head where they cant see, they won't see him blushing. Good plan, right?
"Henry." Both Ellie and Charles said in unison, as if they were synchronised. Henry looked down at the other two, both having changed their expressions. Charles had more of a serious expression than Ellie did, but they both seemed as if they weren't impressed.
"What?" Henry tilted his head at the two standing opposite to him, confused. He didn't say anything bad, so it was beyond him why they looked mad.
"You need to stop thinking about them so much. We've handled them for now. Nothing to worry about, okay?" Charles responded in a comfort like way, yet also in a way that showed empathy. It made Henry feel some element of sadness that he lied, yet the truth would have made the whole conversation awkward. It was obvious that Henry was going to shove this memory deep down in the back of his brain when he got back to the place he calls 'home'.
"I'll try not to." Henry smiled, and as if it was infection, Charles smiled back within a few seconds.
The conversation ended at that, leaving three young adults standing there awkwardly with nothing to say. They clearly didn't think this far ahead.
It wouldn't be much longer in silence before the other two members of Team Triple Threat would contemplate just going back home, so Henry had to do something to make sure they'd stay. Or to make Charles stay. If it was just him and one other, he would pick Charles.
"Hey guys, I have a suggestion!" Henry spoke up, quickly catching the attention of Charles and Ellie. "How about we go to that new arcade place? I'll race you there!"
Ellie clearly had a competitive nature, as she sparked up when Henry said 'race'.
"Oh, you're on!" She exclaimed, getting into a running starting position. Henry and Ellie shared a smirk, then raced off, leaving Charles by himself at the park.
He stood there for a few seconds, thinking to himself. He thought he was the childish one.
"Wait for me!"(This chapter focused more on their group friendship, next one will focus on henry and charles more trust me ☺️)
