Zooming away on my sneakers with my hair flowing behind me, I made my way home. HE has given our group small homes to rest and sleep in because all of the other dorms in the living quarters are filled with other IT agents. We were one of the lucky few to gain a house of our own to live and sleep in with one other fellow roommate. When I reached the door, it was already 7:20. Abe was waiting for me on the steps. I could see his strong and tough frame standing in the doorway.
"Gale!" He called as I slowed to a stop.
"Hey man," I said. My boots deactivated, the nanos flying back into my pocket. I walked up the steps as Abe pulled me into a one arm hug. His big frame engulfed my thinner, lankier one.
"You excited? Missions are being announced tonight." Wait, missions?
"Ohh, yeah!" I said in a fake sounding voice. I had completely forgotten about the missions that will be given to us by HIM. Five other agents including me and Abe were going to be given an assignment tonight to kill five other glitchers, or people who are basically superhumans. They were messing up things, so we had to stop them. I shivered at the thought of the childhood friends I grew up with would be given tasks to kill others at such a young age.
Sigh.
I was not looking forward to getting my mission tonight. The fact that I had been assigned to this school meant that someone in the student body was glitching. They would be killed out of this... world.
I've always known this is not the real world, but I've always wondered what lay outside. HE would not tell me. Not even the agents knew.
So why were we getting rid of them?
I glanced at Abe. He looked as though he was nearly about to jump out of his socks. The four IT agents I've known for my whole lives will be the ones to murder a person. All of them I've gotten to know really well, but I never knew they would be this excited for their first mission. Walking upstairs, I took a hot shower and dressed. HE had instructed us to wear dark clothing so we blended into the night. I chose a dark turtle neck and flexible black jeans. I let my hair be as it is, since I was too lazy to style it. By the time I was finished, it was already 7:40. Abe was bringing a backpack, and he threw mine towards me.
"You're gonna need this, we're going to be bringing home a lot of things tonight."
"Good thinking." I said. A sandwich, a few books, and my hover sneakers. I didn't bring any electronics except for the sneakers so we wouldn't get tracked. Squeezing on my boots, we went outside and into Abe's car. It was a quick drive. I checked the time on my watch.
"7:59." I told Abe.
"Shoot! HE is going to kill us!" Abe groaned, his head smacking the back of the seat. He sped the rest of the way. When we arrived, he parked in front of a thick forest. We pushed the trees and bushes away until we found the facility. Its hidden dome in the thicket of the trees was hard to spot. Once you find it, however, the facility is breathtaking. It was a center with one big, enormous dome in the middle, the roof made out of glass, so you could see the stars. Four other slightly smaller pods extended from its middle. Little pods and tunnels extended from the four smaller pods. This was the NTAS Department, naked to the public's eye. Abe and I entered through the ginormous sliding door, and we took an elevator up to the main deck. The moment the doors opened. Two other agents were already there to greet us.
"You're late. Five minutes late to be exact." The first agent said coldly.
"S-so sorry sir! We promise to not be tardy again." Abe stammered. For such a big guy, I expected him to be a little braver than that. I scrunched up my nose, and frowned.
