today. the day of love. the day of loneliness. the day of happiness. the senior prom was coming up, therefore y/n expected that there would be many girls being asked to go to prom. she expected little to nothing for valentines day, maybe a rose from her dad. aside from that, she didn't expect much since she has been single her whole life, it would just be a normal day for her, except maybe she'd feel a little more lonely today. she didn't put much effort in how she looked, she's already naturally pretty yet she doesn't see it. she put on a black plaid skirt, black combat boots and an oversized conan gray crewneck that said "your sweater" in the front. she put some concealer on so that she didn't look like a zombie, some lip balm and then she left her house.

on the other hand, daniel got up extra early to look good today. he wasn't planning on asking anyone out or anything, but as the jock he is, he wanted to look good since it was valentines day. he washed his hair, dryed it with a towel and put on a pair of clean jeans and a collared sweater with some black leather shoes. he put on some nice smelling cologne and a small chain necklace, and went downstairs to eat breakfast.
"hi mom" he went downstairs and gave his mom a kiss on the cheek.
"hi sweetie you look so handsome!" keri said and daniel smiled.
"thank youuu" he said blushing. daniel on the outside looks very strong and tough but on the inside, he's a little softie. he got two eggo's and popped them into the toaster, heating them up.

daniel's friends arrived at his house, so he got his eggo's and left the house.
"bye mom!!" he waved to her and ran to the boys' car.
"WASSUP DANIEEELLLL" jack said.
"hey man" they did their secret handshake and daniel said hi to all his friends and they drove to school.

*time skip to lunch cus i'm lazy*

it was lunch time in their high school, and there were promposals coming from left and right.
"jeez all these couples make me gag" y/n's best friend, ashley said. y/n nodded at her, slightly wishing she had someone to love, like the other people at her school. all of a sudden, some boy came up to their table holding a sign and a taco bell bag, looking at ashley.

"ashley besson, will you be my main piece and go to prom with me?" ashley's eyes widened and her mouth opened, y/n smiling at ashley, being happy for her best friend.
"y/n i don't wanna be a hypocrite-"
"ashley!! say!! yes!!" y/n whisper shouted,
smiling at her. she started jumping up and down and hugged connor.
"yes! yes! yes!!! YAY TACO BELL" ashley said.
"wanna go and eat at our table?" he asks her. she looks at y/n with puppy eyes, y/n of course letting her go. now it was just her and her food.

"alright so who's asking people to prom today?? you guys all know i'm asking kay" zach asks the boys plus the football team since they all sit at the same table.
"i'm definitely asking erica, she's super pretty and sweet" jack says.
"christina for sure, she's my shawty bae and i have a sign for her, i'll ask her when school ends later" corbyn says.
"i wanna ask tate, i met her in health class and she's really pretty" jonah says.
"what about you dani boy???" jonah asks, messing up his hair.
"no one" he says.
"c'mon daniel, there's gotta be some girl that you wanna impress, you wore all this extra shit, you never wear jeans and you also don't stink" jack says, making all of them laugh.

"i mean i find this one girl cute but you guys are gonna judge me for liking her"
"we aren't like that daniel, spit it out" corbyn says.
"i like y/n" he blushes and all the boys go silent.
"who?" they say at the same time.
"y/n y/l/n! i met her in chemistry, she's really shy yet so smart and so pretty" he says staring at her from a distance.
"what does she look like?" zach asks him. daniel slyly points to y/n sitting alone, eating cup noodles while bopping her head to conan gray.
"dude i dare you to go ask her out to prom" jonah says grabbing his shoulders.
"what? no what if she doesn't like me?"
"you two literally dress the same, plus she might have a thing for you too! stop being a pussy and go ask her!"
"fine but i'm not going alone. hold on imma go to the flower counter and buy her some roses" in their school, they have a booth to sell flowers every valentines day.

"hi i'd like to buy 5 roses please" daniel says.
"10 dollars" she says while preparing a bouquet, "well there goes my lunch money" daniel thinks. he gives her the money and the lady gives him the bouquet. he goes back into the cafeteria, all the girls looking at him thinking that they are the ones that are getting those roses.
"alright so i thought of a plan. you guys come with me and we sing her favorite song idle town by conan gray-"
"how the hell do you know her favorite song" zach interrupts him.
"i do my best to try to talk to her in class, but usually when we do work, that's what she listens to. now shut the fuck up let me tell you my plan" he tells zach.
"we will sing idle town, like the harmonizing and shit and when the song ends, i'll ask her! shabam hope she says yes" he breathes in and out. he looks at them, all their eyes were wide open.

"DANIEL'S A SIMP" corbyn says.
"shut up i know i'm a simp but girls like simps sometimes okay now be quiet mr. cHriStInA iS mY sHaWtY bAe" (a/n: i like simps ok pls don't attack me) they get ready to walk up to y/n and serenade her, and when they're ready, they go.

the boys walk up to her table, and start singing.

this town will never change
people come and go, it's all the same
speed the roads on our doubting days

y/n noticed five boys' harmonies in front of her, she removes her earphones and starts to get confused. she sees daniel holding roses looking at her and her only, making her more confused, yet enjoying daniel's soothing voice.

i never learned anybody's name
we all vowed that we wouldn't stay
kissing signs on the interstate
all we do for now is sit and wait

y/n smiles at daniel, yet still wondering why he would be serenading her. people start recording the boys and y/n, the whole cafeteria being quiet, just filled with the sound of their voices. daniel reaches his hand out to y/n, she takes it gently and he spins her around making her giggle.

the song ends with daniel on one knee holding out the roses, making the crowd of football boys shout, y/n covering her mouth.
"will you go to prom with me y/n?" she tried processing the words in her head, she looks at ashley from a distance, she sees her telling her to say yes, even all the boys are telling her to say yes. y/n nods her head, leading to daniel carrying her and swirling her around. all the boys go wild, while most girls get jealous and some congratulate her.
"why me?" she asks him.
"because you're different. you're so humble and so beautiful yet you don't even know it. you're one of a kind y/n" both of them smiled, looking at eachother in awe.
"you're cheesy it's cute" she says.
"and yet, you're still cuter"
