"A what?" My mum demanded, frowning at me.

"A Wendigo, Mum." I sighed.

"A Wendigo?" She breathed, watching me warily.

"Yes, Mum." I sighed again, rolling my eyes.

"How?"

"I don't know, Mum. I just know that he's a Wendigo, and I'm in love with him."

"You're what?!" She suddenly demanded, her eyes red with anger.

"I'm in love with him. Do you have a problem with that?"

"Yes, and you know what that problem is. What about your mate, Sarah?" She raised an eyebrow and put her hands on her hips.

"My mate?" I laughed humorlessly, glaring at my mother. "My 'mate' is never coming back, Mum. Get. Over. It." I spat, turning on my heel and storming out of the room before the tears began to fall.

My heart was practically breaking just at the mention of the word, and thinking about him only made things worse.

I could feel the tears pricking in the back of my eyes, and not wanting to face any of the people in this house, I grabbed my coat, running out of the front door as fast as humanly possible.

I needed to get away from there, those memories. The heartbreak.

Without stopping, I ran all the way through the empty streets of Azusa, California, unaware of exactly where I was going.

- Theo's POV -

I walked home slowly after leaving Sarah's, hoping the clear streets and fresh air would help clear my mind.

Of course, I had no such luck.

That bite I left on Sarah's neck left me craving blood, and a constant burning sensation ripped at my dry throat. My hand came up subconsciously to sooth the dull burn.

I needed to hunt. And soon.

It didn't help that a group of joggers were making their way towards me.

Great.

A familiar scent wafted through my nose, a frown creasing my forehead.

I turned, waiting for them to appear out of the trees behind me.

The group of joggers continued passed me, not paying any attention to the fact I was staring into the trees.

"You know you can come out now right?" I asked, raising my eyebrow at the silhouette.

A low growl rumbled through the air in response, before a large sandy coloured wolf emerged from the trees.

"What do you want now?" I muttered, folding my arms across my chest.

Another growl. I sighed, rolling my eyes.

"Change." I ordered, waving my hand and turning away.

There was a shuffling sound, followed by a soft grunt.

"Safe." The once wolf muttered.

"Okay, so what do you want?" I demanded, turning to face them again, their deep green eyes sad.

"How is she?" He asked, lowering his eyes to look at his bare feet.

"She doesn't need you." I replied, not really answering his question.

"That's not what I asked. I know she's fine without me. I just need to know that you're treating her right." His eyes narrowed at me this time, his anger flaring.

"Calm down, bucko. She's fine. I haven't hurt her, if that's what you're implying."

"She is my mate, Theodore." He muttered through gritted teeth.

"And she loves me. You broke her heart."

"I love her, Theodore. I left to protect her. We both did."

"We?"

"Scarlet and I." He gestured behind him, waving forward an older version of Sarah.

"What are you both doing back here?"

"She needs to know everything, Theodore." Scarlet stated, her velvet voice distracting me momentarily from the situation at hand.

"She doesn't need to know anything. And you two need to leave. The mate that rejected her and the sister who ran away with him, yeah, she's really gonna want to see you two." I growled sarcastically.

"You have to let us explain, Theo." Scarlet whispered, taking a few steps towards me.

"I don't have to let you do anything. You weren't there to pick up the pieces after what you two did to her. Sometimes I still think she's heartbroken over it."

"And what are you, her Knight in shining armour?" Seff growled, actually baring his teeth to me, obviously trying to look menacing.

"As close as she's ever gonna get." I grumbled, preparing to walk away. "Now, if you don't mind, I have things I need to do."

"Look after her Theo." Scarlet whispered, her voice carrying along the breeze.

"I'll do more than that." I replied, sending a sly wink over my shoulder at the pair, receiving a glare from both of them and a growl from Seff. Obviously hit a sore spot there. "Hey, I'm not the one who left her." I shrugged.

"I didn't leave her. I was protecting her." Seff's whole body started shaking in anger, his forest green eyes turning a dangerous red.

"Now, now, Seff, no need to get angry. Just because I slept with your mate before you did..." I trailed off, a smirk playing on my features.

"You son of a bitch." He looked ready to pounce at me, his teeth bared, and the vein on his forehead almost popping through the skin. Scarlet, however, wouldn't allow this, placing a hand on his shoulder, whispering for him to breath in a calm voice.

"Listen to your girlfriend, wolf-boy, she knows what she's talking about." I grinned, waving over my shoulder at them as I walked away.

Now, the only problem was, how do I keep them away from Sarah?
