- Sarah's POV -
That smell.
It was so familiar.
Made me feel so warm inside.
No. What was wrong with me? I was just imagining his scent because my Mum made me think of him. He wasn't here.
He would never come back.
No, not without my sister he wouldn't.
White hot rage pooled in my stomach, my lips curling in distaste.
I shook my head, clearing my mind of such thoughts as a more recently familiar scent drifted through my nose.
Theo.
I need to apologise to him, tell him that my Mum knows all about us now, so he had nothing to worry about. I was fully dedicated to him.
"Sarah?" Theo's voice called softly, his hand suddenly gripping my elbow gently.
"Theo." A small smile slipped onto my lips as I turned to face him.
"You okay?" He asked, bending down slightly to look me directly in the eye.
"Yeah, never better." I whispered, my gaze focused somewhere over Theo's left shoulder. I watched as a sandy coloured wolf stood, watching Theo and I, his usually green eyes almost black with anger.
A low growl erupted from both Theo and the all too familiar wolf hidden partly by the trees.
"I told you to leave, wolfy-boy." Theo ground out through gritted, his eyes squeezed shut.
"Theo?" I asked, frowning at him, another growl coming from the wolf.
"We need to leave." Theo replied, never opening his eyes.
"Why?" I blinked in surprise as his grip on me tightened and he began tugging me away from the woods. "Baby?"
A gasp slipped out of my lips as the same sandy coloured wolf appeared in front of us, his teeth bared and his hackles, his eyes fixed on Theo.
"Back off." Theo spat at the wolf, his eyes flashing angrily as the wolf simply growled more.
"Theo what's going on?" I asked, my eyes widening in fear when the wolf took a shaky step towards us, the barely concealed anger spilling out in waves from his glare.
"Get behind me, and if I tell you to run, do it." He whispered, pushing me slightly behind his back, leaving no room for argument.
The wolf growled again, and as I watched him, a wave of pain hit me. The wolf continued to watch, his hard eyes softening at my obvious pain.
"What the fuck have you done to her?" Theo spat, taking a menacing step towards the wolf, who growled again, his attention back on Theo.
For a few moments, Theo didn't say anything, just glared at the wolf before him, willing him to back down.
"Theo? What's going on?" I whispered, gripping a handful of his shirt on the small of his back.
He didn't answer me, just bared his teeth and launched towards the wolf, his eyes black.
"Theo, seriously, what the hell is going on?" He still didn't answer, his back tense, being the only thing I could see, I frowned at it. "Theo, talk to me!" I thumped him in the back once, my palm landing flat on his back and causing him to flinch slightly.
"Okay, no need to hit so hard." He muttered, straightening, although his glare on the wolf in front of us never wavered. "I'll explain everything once the mutts gone." He spoke a little louder this time, earning a growl from the wolf.
"No, Theo, you're going to turn around and tell me exactly what is going on with this whole situation." I growled, getting angrier and angrier by the second, vaguely noticing how the wolf crouched down a little further, eyes narrowed on Theo.
"Sarah, I need you to turn around, and walk away, don't look back. Go home, and I'll meet you there." He whispered, and by the confused look on the wolfs face, I gathered that he didn't hear it.
"What the-"
"Just go, Sarah!" He interrupted, clenching his fists at his sides.
"Theo." I whispered, eyes widening slightly at his sudden harshness.
"Please, Sarah, I can't keep you safe if you stay here."
"What's going on?"
"I'll explain everything later, just go."
I barely made it two steps before the large, sandy wolf leapt in front of me, halting my movements. It's deep, black eyes bored into mine, holding me in place as I stared back at it.
"Step away from her, mutt." Theo growled, stepping closer to me slowly.
The wolf growled, snarling as Theo reached his hand towards me, a warning glint in his eye. I continued to stare into the eyes that were now just metres in front of mine, not having the energy or willpower to force myself to look away.
"Sarah?" Theo muttered, his voice begging me to turn around to look at him. But I couldn't. My eyes remained locked on his, the blackness fading as a pale green took it's place.
"Seff?" I whispered, my eyes widened as the wolf nodded it's huge head slowly, his eyes never leaving mine.
"Sarah, please go home, I can handle this." Theo growled from beside me, even though I wasn't looking at him, though, I knew he was worried.
"Theo, why didn't you tell me?" I snapped, turning on my heel to glare at him.
"I was trying to protect you, baby." He mumbled, reaching out to take my hand in his.
A low growl caused us to both snap our eyes back to Seff, his eyes once again a deep black as he glared at our linked hands. On instinct I pulled away, suddenly feeling guilty for doing something like that in front of my mate.
Wait. He was the one who left me. For my sister. He should be the one feeling guilty, not me.
"What are you doing back here Seff?" I demanded, scowling at him.
He whimpered, lowering his gaze down to the floor.
"Change back." I demanded, waving my hand at the trees behind us, before weaving my fingers back through Theo's.
Another soft whimper sounded behind me, before I heard the soft rustling of the trees. A few seconds later, footsteps echoed around me, and I almost gasped at the revelation that he wasn't alone.
She was here.
