The Scarlet Letter.(On Hold)

Chapter Four.

"What the hell is she doing here?" I snapped, not being able to contain the resentment I felt towards the girl who I had once been close with. She lowered her eyes to the floor, preferring to gaze at the patches of grass at her feet rather than look me in the eye. "She can't even look at me. She knows that she was in the wrong." 

"Sarah, it's not all as black and white as you think it is" Theo moaned, running both of his hands through his hair in frustration. 

"It seems pretty simple to me. You ran away with my sister! You're my mate, Seff, MY mate! Not her's! Why do you always have to go for what is mine?!" I snapped, turning on Scarlet now. 

"I didn't want him in the first place, Sarah, just let us explain." Scarlet pleaded, lifting her gaze up to meet mine. 

"Bullshit." I spat, glaring at her. "Bull. Shit. Scarlet, and you know it!" 

"Sarah, please? Just listen?!"

"NO! I don't want to hear anymore of your crap Scarlet! And Seff? You can fuck right back off with her!" I screamed, my face turning red as anger overtook my body completely. 

"Sarah, calm down baby. Honey, you need to calm down or you're going to change. Listen to me, deep breathes. Calm down." Theo's voice soothed, rubbing my back in an attempt to calm me down. 

I did as I was instructed, turning away from the two people who had hurt me the most to face the one who had stuck by me the whole time. "Get them out of here, Theo." I whispered, squeezing my eyes shut. 

"Well?" Theo growled a few minutes later. "You heard her! Get out! She doesn't want to see you!" 

"I can't leave without her." Seff replied, sounding pained at the thought. My heart clenched slightly, but I ignored it, knowing that nothing good would come of letting myself get close to him. 

"You did it once, you can do it again." Theo spat, clearly pissed at the two of them. 

"That was not my fault!" Seff called, sounding almost as pissed as Theo.

"Oh, so who's fault was it?!" I snapped, my anger rising again. "Mine?!" 

"No. But it wasn't mine Sarah, I need you to understand that." 

"Whatever, Seff, you can stop with the crap now." 

"Sarah, I love yo-" 

"Don't." I interrupted, holding my hand up to halt the rest of that phrase. "Don't talk to me of love." I spat out the word like venom, the feel of it foreign on my tongue. 

"Sarah, I-" 

"Seriously, Seff?! You think I can't see right through you? We grew up together! I know you better than you know yourself." 

"And vice versa, Sarah. Like I know that your heart is pounding right now, you're undecided whether you want to come running towards me, or to kill me. You hate me for what I did to you all those years ago, but, baby, if you would just listen to me-" 

"I don't want to hear anymore, Seff!" I screamed, placing my hands over my ears to block out the sound of his voice. 

"Sarah, listen to us, we never meant to hurt you." Scarlet cut in, shouting a little louder so I could hear her. 

"I don't care if you MEANT to, Scarlet, you DID! And you have no idea how much it hurt to have your mate taken away from you by your own sister. The one you trusted with your life, and she goes, and hurts you in the worst possible way." I could feel the tears pricking at the back of my eyes, but refused to let them fall. 

"I'm so-" Scarlet started, tears welling in her eyes too. 

"NO!" I screamed, once again covering my ears from the sound of the voice that I didn't want to hear. "You can't come back and make it all better with apologies and 'i love you's'! It doesn't work like that, Scar!" A stray tear slipped down my cheek, and I quickly brushed it away, not wanting them to see how they have weakened me. 

I felt Theo's hand grip my upper arm comfortingly, and a soft growl erupted from Seff's chest, glaring at the hand that he more than likely wished was his. Both Theo and I glared at him. 

"Get your hands off her." Seff growled, his eyes darkening again as he glared down at Theo's hand, still on my arm. 

"Get the fuck outta here, then you won't have to see all the other stuff I'm gonna do to her." Theo replied, a smirk in his voice. Seff's eye darkened more, fur already starting to sprout from his skin. 

"Seff, this isn't helping anything." Scarlet whispered to him, gripping onto his arm, much like how Theo was doing with me. This time round, however, I felt the pang in my chest. The sudden wave of jealousy and hatred I felt towards the two people in front of me. 

"I can't just stand here and listen to him talk about her like she's some cheap whore, Scarlet." He growled, never taking his eyes off of us. 

"What would you know?" I snapped. 

"Like I said, I know everything, Sarah. I've always been here for you, every step of the way, through everything, you just never knew it." 

"Bullshit." I muttered, looking away from the piercing black eyes that were burning into the side of my face. 

"I'm always here, Sarah. I love you, no matter what you say. I'm your Mate. If you can look me in the eye right now and tell me you don't love me, then I will walk away right now," He paused, taking a few steps towards me. "I'll walk away and never come back. I'll leave you to be happy with Theo, and you'll never see or hear from me again. All you have to do is tell me you don't love me." 

"I can't."
