Today just didn't feel right, maybe it would later but for now it doesn't. I flipped the page of the book I was reading, not minding the look Athan was sending me across the table. I remember promising to pluck his eyes out but it seems like he doesn't care. Might as well start getting my rusty spoon ready then.
Athan groaned when the footsteps and voices of people approached.
"Eating without us? You couldn't wait?" Someone asked, I recognized them from the day they came with Athan.
"No" Athan replied flatly.
A dark head took a seat beside me
" How're you holding up?" I shrugged, not wanting to talk.
" Since Our dear king here doesn't want to introduce us, I'm Nylo" I didn't want to reply but his chirpy attitude affected me.
"Mary"
"Yeah I knew that ,I just wanted you to talk" he collected my spoon from my hands and ate from my plate. I was surprised, Athan had chirpy people around him? I was thinking they'd all be hard headed like him, or worse. A smile appeared on my face at his funny behavior, this guy was probably centuries old but he had a carefree aura that could change someone's mood in seconds.
"It's so good" I laughed when he groaned .
" That is Javier"he pointed to the guy also eating from Athan's plate.
" Xanthe" He pointed to the one filling his plate with food. He saw us and moved over to sit beside us.
"I'm sorry, forgive me. I was just wondering how the moon goddess made you.."
" Glow brighter than the sun" Xanthe stopped his Shakespearean motion and looked at me. I don't know what happened but I laughed , his face wasn't that easy to ignore.
"The one glaring at Athan is Javier"
"And the one ranting so much is Aldon"
I liked all of them, they were very charming and friendly. It was still so hard to believe that these were Athan's friends.
"Athan have you sent out the letters for her coronation? " Aldon asked.
" Not yet"
" Athan it's in 2 weeks"
"I'm well aware of that"
"So how come you haven't done it yet?"
"That should be the least worries, by the look of it she has no idea" I raised my eyebrows at Xanthe's comment.
" She doesn't" Athan replied flatly
"God, you never cease to surprise me. Why wouldn't you tell her about something concerning her. Word has already gone round that you've found your beloved and people are eager to see her"
" What's he talking about? "I asked Nylo.
" Just kill me"Aldon cursed loudly and groaned
" You're Athan's Beloved" I nearly gagged at that statement. "That means you're his Queen" I want to badly slap his teeth out " A coronation is happening two weeks from now in your honour,to crown you as Queen and introduce you to everyone"
I blinked once
Twice.
" I know it's all too sudden but it's mandatory" Aldon comforted. So all of his was going to happen and Athan didn't bother telling me?
How lovely.
"Before those two weeks you're to know all you can about the clan. You'll be groomed or rather prepared for that days event, when all that is over you'll have all the full rights of a Queen and then, your duty starts"
"I didn't sign up for this"
" We know, but it's mandatory" Javier said.
I looked at all of them. I couldn't blame them, it was meant to happen. It's just so sad that this means I was finally stuck here, with Athan. This was a reality check that all my nightmares were coming to life.
I was paired to this monster for the rest of my life.
I was paired with a descendant of my nightmare and my life was probably going to turn into one.
My heart beat fastened and I saw their faces frown a little,they could hear it and my fear was in full swing.
"I have to go" I ran out of the house as fast as I could, Athan suddenly appeared in front of me.
Ugh, vampire speed.
I pushed him out of my way but he wrapped his hands around my waist.My heartbeat was quickening and my breathing was uneven.
"Calm down" he whispered as I squirmed to get out of his hold. He cradled his head in his chest , staggering slightly. I couldn't calm down,I needed to get out of here. I pushed harder and he let me go.The last time I had an attack was when I was 15, that was centuries ago,why now?
What was wrong with me? Why couldn't my life be easy? What's with all the drama? Why Athan? Why me? Why now?
I gasped when my chest stung. I needed to go home to Elizabeth. I used my speed and stumbled when I got to her doorstep. I tried twisting the knob but it was locked.
"Mom!! Please open up"
Seconds later the door opened and I stumbled in, faceplanting in the process.
"Mary!!" She turned my body and cradled my head, removing strands of hair from my face. My breathing was too uneven and painful. Each breath felt like I was slowly giving in to darkness.
"Stay with me mija, open your eyes" she forced my eyes open.
"Breathe"
" I can't"I whispered. She said a few spells that were meant to help me but they weren't working as fast as they were supposed to. She pulled me to the couch and ran to get something, she forced it into my mouth and suddenly my entire body felt weak, numb and loose.
My vision blurred, my head lightened and the voices seemed far away. I gave into the darkness calling out for me, at least it seemed more peaceful.
