Living on HOPE

3 leaving

At dinner time Hazel slid silently down the metal steps, right when the dinner bell rung. Hope held Hazel's hand down the steps. When they reached the bottom, they filed out into their different areas. Hope went to her assigned seat with the 11 year olds. Hazel walked to her spot with the 5-7 year olds. Hope saw her friend Tara, and started talking about leaving. You know we could do it if we got out of here quickly! We could be out of town by 3:00 in the morning. She said. Quiet down you're going to get us both hit. Tara snapped back. Tara looked up at Hope, who looked down at her with patient eyes. I'm sorry I just can't go... Hope's eyes watered after all she had been through, the friend she thought would stick with her through everything. She ate her cold biscuit, a slice of bread, a few cubes of cheese, and some sommer sausage slices. She drank all her water up and cleaned up. She waited for Hazel to finish her meal. She slipped some extra cheese and bread along with some water in a cantene in a napkin. Hope walked Hazel upstairs where they shared Hope's bed. They put both their suitcases under the bed. Hazel went to sleep easily, Hope however took a while to fall asleep. Hope slept 5 hours and than woke up Hazel. She creeped up to the attic and got a wagon. She put all the luggage in the wagon and took the sheets off her and Hazel's beds. She got the pillows and made a slightly comfortable bed for Hazel in the wagon. She set Hazel down in the wagon. She held onto the back end of the wagon as she got it down the stairs. She opened the door and slipped out with Hazel and the wagon, into the night. Hope yawned and rubbed her eyes. She pulled the wagon to the sidewalk and got a thin jacket out. She slipped everything back in the wagon and continued 'till 2:30 she stopped to rest. Hazel was sound asleep, in the wagon. Hope pulled the wagon into a forest, and got in the wagon and curled in a ball beside Hazel.
