A UNIQUE BOY

"Thank you, Ma'am. Next, what can I help you with, Mister?" I asked the costumer. It's getting late but the boy in front of my pharmacy is still there, staring at my store. I wonder what he wants.

As I accommodate the last costumer, I put the sign 'closed, see you' and decided to approach the boy. But before that, I retrieved a used plastic bag and filled it with foods, vitamins, medicines, and a bible (we print bible because me and my family are christians).

I went out after closing the gates. As I got closer, I realized that the boy is a beggar. Ripped clothing, dirty appearance, and a thundering stomach. Apparently, he's hungry.

Doesn't he have parents, or a guardian?

Sympathy filled the whole me. Questions bother me such as why does he need to be a beggar at a very young age? Children should be playing around, not begging around for money. But speaking of money, he doesn't have any. "Hey, little guy. Are you hungry?"

"I am." He said and pat the ground beside him, inviting me to sit.

"Here, let's eat." I suddenly decided to eat with him, luckily, I brought extra foods with me. "An empty stomach cause diseases."

"I know, Miss."

"Mm hmm. By the way, why do you not have money? Did the mean kids snatch it from you?"

"Yes, but I don't care, people give me money even though I am not asking for it."

"You don't? Why?"

"My parents abandoned me since I was five here, on this same spot. I grew without them, I don't want to live any further, let God take me."

"Mm hmm, then why do you accept money from them instead of shaking your head?" I asked, curiosity is killing me. I am starting to think that he's unique because of the way he answers me. It's not the usual answers from street children. There are times that they don't even say thanks. Oh, I haven't given him the pack.

"For the other kids. They need it more. What do you have there, Miss. I wish you brought the one I want from your store."

I know that, it is food.

"You're unbelievable yet amazing. Keep that trait up, but keep for yourself too. Here, this is what you want, right?" I lend him a biscuit first then the whole plastic bag. He scavenged it and smiled happily.

"You're wrong, this is what I want." I was stunned by his actions. Foods aren't what he wanted, but the bible, and that left me amazed on my spot.

"W-why?" I can't believe it, I really can't. How? Why?

"Because when I receive food, it will only last tonight until tomorrow morning, but when I receive a bible, it will save my soul eternally. Life here is hard and is not important, what matters is my afterlife above with Him..."
