Amy's POV
I rub my swollen and puffy eyes to try wake myself up. I know I look like shit because I feel like it. My neck aches from sleeping in the back seat of a car on a weird angle. I stretch it back and forth, rolling it around in an attempt to loosen it up.
As my eyes open they are greeted by the darkness outside. The only light is the headlights of the car and the dull glow of the dashboard.
"Where are we?" I mumble, still not having forgiven either of the women in the front seats for the situation I now found myself in.
"We're about fifteen minutes out from the pack house," Cara replies from the driver's seat.
"Pack house?" I ask, still finding it hard to believe the whole werewolf story of theirs.
I have watched the Twilight movies and seen the Teen Wolf series, but I have a feeling they haven't truly prepared me for my new life.
"Wolves live in packs," Janice explains from the seat directly in front of me. I'm so confused about who is who and who is really my mother that I've chosen to just stick with a first name basis.
"Thank you Captain Obvious," I mutter sarcastically.
"The packs have their bordered lands and within their borders they live in their own community, much like a small town," Janice continues on, ignoring my comment. "Families live in the houses surrounding the pack house, however the Alpha family live in the pack house, along with other pack members. The bottom floor is all common area, open to the entire pack. The second level contains rooms for the unmated warriors who have come of age and the third level is occupied by the betas and their families. The Alpha family resides on the top floor and is made up of the Alpha and the Luna and their pups."
"Where do I fit into this house then?" I ask, leaning forward between the two seats. "I mean, I'm not even exactly a part of this pack. So should I even be going to the pack house? Maybe I should just stay in a motel outside of the border."
"There are no motels around here," Cara answers, "And you won't be safe outside the border. You need to be where the pack can protect you."
"We will stay in the Beta level. That's where Cara lives."
"Why would this pack even want to protect me? It's not as if I'm their Luna. What's in it for them?"
I notice the women share a glance.
"What haven't you told me?"
"We're here!" Cara announces, cutting off my question.
I don't want to drop the conversation, but the view out the front window has me in awe. A massive building the size of an apartment block or the shopping mall is lit up like a Christmas tree.
The road leads right up to the circular driveway and Cara pulls to a stop just outside the front door. I stare up at the building through my passenger window and only move to open my door when I realise both Janice and Cara have already exited the car. Stepping out of the car, I stretch my legs while turning to take in my surroundings.
"Amy," Janice calls over to me from the back of the car, "Come get your bag."
Reality sets in and my mood instantly drops.
Reluctantly claiming my large suitcase, I doubt they managed to pack all my belongings into, I pull out the handle and follow Cara up the front steps. Janice brings up the rear. As we enter the building, we walk into a large foyer. The pack house is more like a pack resort. Even for the late hour of the night, it is bustling with activity. Majority of the occupants look to be not much older than myself. I remember briefly Janice mentioning how the unmatched werewolves that have come of age lived in the building.
