Ezekiel's POV

I'm standing with Donovan and Liam outside the Midnite Pack's house when my father comes storming up to me, Henry at his flank.

"What do you mean you're not coming in to meet Amaris?" my father bellows at me, clearly not impressed with the mind link message I just sent him.

"Can you please listen to my reason first?" I plead with him. I haven't even told Donovan or Liam about Amy yet.

"There is nothing you can say that would be good enough reason to break this treaty and you know that!"

Donovan nudges his head to Liam and the two of them slink away, Henry standing a few metres away also.

"How about a true mate?" I say firmly, only loud enough for him to hear.

"That's a fairy tale and you know it. A story made up to tell young pups. Not something an Alpha believes."

I run my hand through my hair in frustration, wondering how I can get my father to understand.

"I didn't believe it, not until recently when I met this girl," I start to explain.

"What girl? Which pack is she from?" he orders.

"Well, I don't think she belongs to a pack per se," I think aloud, "I don't even understand it all myself. It's just when I'm near her, Orion starts going crazy. Her scent is the most heavenly thing I've ever smelt in my entire life. The thought of losing her or seeing her with another male makes me go crazy."

My father eyes me, giving nothing away of what he is thinking.

"I just don't feel it's fair to meet this Amaris girl and lead her on, when fate has given me a chance at finding my true mate."

"This is just cold feet," my father grumbles at me. "I had them right before meeting your mother. It will pass."

"But..." I try to interrupt.

"You have until morning to get over this little crush you have made up in your head."

My father lets out a gruff telling me it's the end of the conversation and storms off back towards the pack house, Henry at his heel.

I rub my face with my hands and growl.

"What is with you at the moment?" Donovan asks tentatively as he reapproaches.

"She's here," I tell him, "I don't know how, I don't know why, but she's here."

"Who is?"

"The human."

Amy's POV

"The audacity of him," Cara complains, pacing back and forth in my room as I sit on the edge of my bed, taking my earrings out. "This agreement has been in place since the day you were born."

My eyes shoot to her, "What do you mean?"

Cara pauses where she is and turns to face me. She lets out a sigh and moves towards me, sitting beside me on the bed.

"Remember how I told you the story of when you were born?" Cara looks to me and I nod. "The Ryvar Pack heard of what had happened. Given the threat Alpha Marcus now held over both packs that he controls Ecko Pack, they agree to a treaty. A forming of packs and bloodlines. That my child, the rightful Luna and heir of Ecko pack, would be a promise mate for the heir of the Ryvar Pack. Together, you will be a strong enough to reclaim Ecko and bring strength between the three packs."

"This is all too much," I moan, "But why the Ryvar Pack? Why not the heir to the Midnite Pack?"

"Kellan was a young Alpha and Stella was not yet pregnant with any pups to offer," Cara explains, "Also the bloodlines were too close, given I was originally from Midnight."
