Promise Me: A Shadow x Lily Story

Chapter 5: Eggman's Base

Lily's POV:

I woke up a saw that I was snuggling against Shadow's chest fur. I mentally freaked out while trying to stay calm so I didn't wake up Shadow. I eventually gave in that I was starting to like the feeling of being like this with Shadow. I just hope no one sees us like this. I glanced over at the clock and noticed that it was still pretty early, so I just went back asleep.

few hours later...

Me and Shadow was getting ready to go on the mission to Eggman's base. I packed any gadgets we would need on the mission and same as Shadow. I even got my medical first aid if one of us gets hurt. You can never be too careful. Anyway, once we finished, we arrived in front of the base. And the front doors were guarded by robots.

Me: How are we going to get in?

Shadow: (pointing up towards the wall) We can use that nearby air vent.

Me: (holding out a screw driver) Good thing I always come prepared.

We went over to the vent and I unscrewed the bolts and opened the vent.

Me: You go first and lead the way. I'll close the vent behind us so they don't suspect anything.

Shadow nodded as he went in the vent and I closed it up again like the way it was and then followed.

Shadow: Then computer system where all his data files are is somewhere below us. There we should see all his records, data files, and plans. Along with blueprint files for his robots.

Me: Ok. Let me hack the computer while you watch our backs.

Shadow nodded. Once we got inside the base, we opened a part of the vent and looked to see if there was any guards and their was none. Once we got down from the vent, I went over to Eggman's computer and started hacking as Shadow was looking around to see if their was any robots headed our way. Then I found a file that showed something that grabbed my attention. It was blueprints for a machine that would hold... me... inside the center of it, using my powers to... power it. My ability to mimic powers of anyone I touched. I discovered it years ago when I felt something pass through me when I touched Shadow. Soon after I noticed that I started to get his abilities of chaos spears, chaos control, etc. The more I looked at the file, the more danger I saw with it. It wasn't only going to use my powers, but it was going to drain my life force. Which is the amount of energy that anybody had to keep them alive. (I don't remember if I made that up or if someone already did but for now go with it I guess) Mine's was depended incredibly on my powers. So this machine was going to kill me if Eggman gets me in it. I was going to tell Shadow but then I saw something else, like I hadn't seen enough already. I saw proof that Eggman knew how dangerous this machine was. To me. He already tried experimenting on it. I was confused. How could he already have tried the machine if I'm the only one who has Power Mimicry. Then I saw who he experimented on, who was the only other people who could have the same abilities, the people who I loved the most and he took them away from me: My parents. I felt tears get in my eyes. He killed them. He robotized them in front of my eyes and then killed them.

Shadow's POV:

I was keeping watch but I began to wonder what was taking Lily so long. I went towards her and tried to look at her but I saw her face towards the other way with her ears flopped behind her head, not looking at me but knows that I'm here.

Me: Lily, are you alright?

Lily: N-No. I-I'm not.

I could her the sadness in her voice. With her voice cracking. I looked at the screen and saw what she was looking at while I had my back turned. About Eggman's machine. Anger developed me. If Eggman wants her, he's going through me to do it. I read me saying that it could... kill her? I'm never going to let that happen to her. She would know that so why is she sad? I would understand more anger then sadness when I see this. When I kept reading realization hit me. He experimented the machine on her parents and it killed them both. She discussed this before about how she lost her family to Eggman by them being turned into mind controlled, robotic slaves and I remembered me promising to her that night I saved her that I would get them back, but now... they're officially gone. I looked back at her and when I called her name, she looked up at me with tears flowing freely from her eyes. When I stared into her blue eyes I saw pain, and sadness, like she lost everything in her life. Which she really have. I gave her a hug as she cried in my chest, knowing that I've been in her shoes before, when I lost Maria.

Me: Hey. It's going to be ok.

Lily: N-No, it's not. I-I don't have anybody now... I-I l-lost everyone...

Me: You still have me and the rest of the people you made friends with. And someone once said that you need to let go of the past so you can have a future.

Lily looked up at me knowing that she was the one who told me that, and she even chuckled a bit from it, but still had the look of remorse.

Me: And that same person said she knew that I'll never lose her, and she knew that I'll always be here to protect her.

Lily managed to calm down and wipe her tears away. Then she had the look like she realized something.

Lily: If that file said only what happened to my parents... then what about... "gasp" I had a brother! And a pet dog! Where are they!?

Me: Shhh! You'll get the guards' attention.

Lily: Sorry.

Me: Though it would be more likely that he didn't kill them or else he would have recorded it on this.

Lily: (confident) So they can still be... alive! I'll make a promise to my parents that I'll protect the only things left to me that is family. I count my closest friends as family now. And I never break my promises.

Me: Good. I know that you will keep it. Like I'll  keep mine.

Lily: And what's that?

Me: To protect you with my life, and to never let you go.

Lily hugged me while I heard her say, "Thank you".

Me: "chuckled" Lets get out of here before anyone spots us.

(Sorry that it's been a while since I've updated any of my books, I've been real busy with online school lately. Though I managed to spare some time to update a few chapters so hope you enjoy them.)
