Something I threw together in around an hour

Just so you know, I haven't run this through Grammarly or anything like that, so it's just the way I originally wrote it, if that makes sense. It's also part of a backstory-ish thing of two characters that I'm planning on putting in a story that I'm writing with one yukiTOES. With that out of the way, I hope you enjoy!

"Look what we have here, little Luna is drawing again! I wonder what it is?" The guy who had spoken took the paper from Luna's hand. Luna looked like she was about to cry, tears welling up in her pale green eyes. Lava wanted to do something, but she knew the bully would just punch her, or hit her, or something like that. Lava hated when they bullied Luna and all she could do was sit and watch. It made her feel like a bad friend, made her feel useless. She wished her classmates would do something, but she knew better than to hope. She had stopped a long time ago. She had learned that if she hoped for something, she would only be disappointed.

The bully held the unfinished drawing closer to his face to get a better look at it. "What is this, some kind of monster?" he asked, even though he clearly knew that it was a cat. This made Luna start crying, though she tried to hide it. Lava's fists clenched, almost without her realizing it.

"Maybe. She needs to start drawing actual people, and then maybe one day she'll get better," one of the bully's "friends" said.

"Yeah right," the bully scoffed. "And water will burn." At this he tore the paper in two, dropped it on the floor, and walked away. This made Lava even angrier. Not just how he had bullied and insulted Luna, but how he so brazenly destroyed her hard work.

"Wait!" Lava stood up, surprising herself and the bully.

"What do you want?" The bully sneered. "Are you actually her friend?" He seemed shocked at the idea that Luna might have friends. The thought made Lava even angrier, and fueled her hate towards the bully.

"Of course I am!" Lava snapped. "And you had no right to do that to her. She worked hard on that drawing, and it's certainly better than anything you could do. I want to see you apologize right now, or else...." She trailed off, not knowing what to say. Her anger evaporated. Or else what? She couldn't do anything, seeing how she was outnumbered, and she had never fought in her life. This was the first time she had ever done something like this, even though Luna had been bullied numerous times before. Every time after they left, Lava would try to comfort Luna, but she hated knowing that if she had just done something, maybe the bullying would have stopped, though she doubted it. Everyone knew not to get in the way of the bullies. Even so, every time she stood back and watched her best friend get hurt by those bullies, she hated herself even more.

"Or else what? What do you think you can do to me? If you haven't noticed, I basically run this school. Everyone is afraid of me, and if you don't back down now, I might have to show you why." The bully stepped a little closer, seemingly itching or a fight. "Or are you too scared?" All of their classmates shrank back, trying to avoid being seen.

Even though every cell in her body was screaming at her to run, back down, don't get hurt, Lava stood her ground. "I'm not scared of you. The way I see it, you need to learn a lesson." She stepped closer.

"Oh, really? About what," the bully raised an eyebrow in mock curiosity.

"You need to learn how to not bully my best friend," As Lava said these words, she closed the gap between herself and the bully and punched him right in the nose. This caught him by surprise and he staggered back a little. That looked like it hurt, Lava noticed with satisfaction.

"You're gonna pay for this," he grunted as he righted himself.

"Maybe you should go to the nurse, that looked like it really hurt," the other guy said quickly. "It looks broken." The bully grunted and opened his mouth as if he was about to say something, then stopped. He seemed to be in a lot of pain now, so he turned around and headed towards the door.

Lava watched, satisfied with her work, and then walked calmly back to her desk, which was right next to Luna's. She sat down and leaned over towards Luna.

"You alright?"

Luna looked up and Lava noticed that she had stopped crying. "Y-yes," she sniffed. She then looked around, as if noticing for the first time that the bully was nowhere to be seen. "Why did you do that? You could have been hurt."

"I know, but I needed to teach that idiot a lesson. He needed to learn not to bully you," Lava smiled at her friend. "And now, I don't think he'll be bothering you anymore." She watched as her classmates emerged from hiding and started talking in hushed whispers about what had just happened, as if they were afraid just talking about it would bring the bully back and send him into a rage.

Luna looked doubtfully at her friend. "But what if you're wrong?"

Lava looked at the door, daring the bully to come back and start bullying Luna again. "Then I'll be happy to break his nose even more."
