I woke up early in the morning knowing that I was going to have to get out of the house before my father woke up. I pushed myself up and looked out my window. It was raining so I walked over to my wardrobe and pulled out my blue skinny jeans, my black shirt with a rainbow heart and my coat. I jumped into the shower and was out in 5 minutes flat. I looked in the mirror at the bruises on my face and sighed.
"I need to get away from here. But where would I go?" I opened up a cupboard and pulled out a bag of makeup. After I had applied the makeup only to cover the bruises I grabbed my school bag and walked silently down the stairs. My father was still asleep on the couch so I reached over and pulled fifty dollars out of his wallet. This should keep me fed for a bit. I glanced over at my father as I heard him mumble something inaudible, then I walked outside and shut the door behind me as quietly as possible. I looked around and decided to go to the small café in town, that I used to go to with my mother before she 'disappeared'. When I reached the café I peered in the window. It was empty. I walked in through the doors and the lady behind the counter greeted me with a smile.
"May I be of service?" she asked with a merry tone in her voice. Her dark curly hair rested on her shoulders and her glitter covered shirt glistened in the early morning light. Her eyes were a pale blue and her smile was kind. But as I stood in silence I noticed something. Her eyes flashed brown then back to normal.
"Um... Maybe?" I said in an uneasy voice as I began reading the menu on the wall. She looked up at the menu and sighed.
"Do you want a cup of tea and A muffin?" she was trying not to sound rude. I nodded and she smiled. "That'll be six dollars, thank you" she said, once again sounding happy. I handed her the fifty dollar note and she gave me my cup of tea, my muffin and my change. I turned around and walked over to a seat by the window. As I sat down I heard the door swing open. My focus turned to the door and I saw a boy who looked about my age, with a head of light brown curls and hazel eyes. He glanced over at me and I moved my focus to the window. I glanced back over and realised he was standing at my table.
"Your Lilly, right?" he asked. How did he know my name, no one ever took notice of me in school. Unsure what to do, I nodded and he smiled, then sat down. He turned to look out the window then turned back to me and raised an eyebrow.
"What's so interesting out there?" he asked, chuckling. I glanced over at him, his curls were hanging infront of his eyes and I smiled but only faintly as I shrugged. He chuckled and glanced up at the plain white clock, on the wall of the café, which seemed out of place on the bamboo wood and sighed.
"Well I gotta go" He stated "I gotta get ready for school, see you there?" I took a second to think and nodded. He smiled and made his way to the door. I decided I should leave the café and begun looking for some public toilets. After a couple minutes of walking, I was standing outside the local shopping center. I walked in and looked around at the shops lining the walkway. I spotted a small shop full of trinkets and art supplies to my left. I began walking towards the toilets, when I bumped into someone. I looked up to see a head of light brown curls. He looked at me in confusion. He was probably wondering why I was here, but before he could speak I ran into the girls toilets and into the closest stall to the door. I got changed into my school uniform amd walked out slowly. The boy I met at the café grabbed my arm when I got out of the toilets. I looked at him and he smiled.
"You never told me your name" I informed him. He chuckled and held my wrist as he walked out to his mum's car. His mother's car was a small, white volvo, it obviously wasn't new, due to the large scratch along the driver's side. He looked at his mum and smiled as he opened the car door, letting me in. She gave him a suspicious look when she saw me and he nodded to assure her I wasn't going to cause any trouble. It was a quiet ride to his house. When we got to his house I waited in the lounge room for the boy to get dressed. I watched as he came out from his room and he smiled at me.
