I slipped out of Lilly's room and straight into mine. I lied down on my bed and stared at the ceiling, wondering what Lilly had dreamt about. I reached under my pillow and pulled out my phone. I checked the time before opening up my gallery. It was three o'clock in the morning. I flipped through the pictures on my phone and stopped when a picture caught my eye. It was me and Lilly before her mum died. Lilly's arm was around me and her curly blonde hair sas cut just below her shoulder blades. A wide smile spread across her pale face and her bright blue eyes were framed perfectly by her eye lashes. I was always in the background, that particular day she was taking selfies with everyone. I sighed, turning off my phone and placing back under my pillow.

The

"Ethan" I heard Lilly whisper. I turned my head to see Lilly standing in my doorway.

"What's up?" I asked, sitting up before swinging my legs over the edge of my bed.

"I can't sleep"she whispered, playing with a strand of her hair while she stared at the ground.

"Oh, do you want to watch a movie or something?" I asked. She looked up at me and nodded. I smiled and stood up before making my way over to her. As I walked to her I tried to solve the mystery of what she dreamt about. Could it have been her mum? I walked past Lilly and she followed close behind me as I walked out to the lounge room. Lilly curled up on the lounge while I searched for a movie to watch. I picked up Batman, remembering her reaction when I picked up the Batman pajamas. I showed her the case and she smiled at me. I smiled as I put the disc in the DVD player. I picked up the remote and went to sit beside Lilly.

The end credits rolled and I looked over at Lilly. I hadn't noticed she was asleep, leaning her head on my shoulder. Her face was peaceful as she slept silently, snuggled against my side. I felt overwhelmed with peace as I watched her sleep. I didn't want to wake her, she seemed too peaceful, but my throat was dry with thirst. I slowly moved myself from beside Lilly and stopped when I heard her yawn. Her eyes opened slowly and she sat up as she stretched out her arms, accidentally hitting me in the face.

"I'm so sorry!" she cried, jumping to her feet. I shook my head standing up and placing my hand on her shoulder. I was surprised by her reaction and she seemed confused by the way I reacted to it.

"It's fine" I assured her, guiding her to sit back down. She stared at me with a blank expression. I felt a sudden wave of guilt wash over me.

"Why?" she mumbled. I stared into her eyes, confused by her question. Lilly never ceased to confuse me. Any traces of guilt were drowned out by the new wave of confusion. She dropped her head, staring at her lap.

"What?" I asked, disoriented by her question. She looked up at me and smiled faintly.

"Why are you so nice to me?" she stared at her lap. I became frightened by this question. How am I supposed to tell her that the one person she didn't take note of had a massive crush on her for years? I took a deep breath and reached out, placing one finger under her chin and pulling her head up to look in her eyes. I gathered up all the courage I had before leaning forward to press my lips against hers. Her lips were soft and warm against mine. I could feel my heart thump in my chest and I wondered if she could feel it too. After a few seconds I pulled away and watched her face. Her cheeks flushed a garnet red and she stared at me blankly before shaking her head.

"You... Kissed me" she stated. I felt the blood rush to my cheeks and I laughed nervously.

"Yeah, I guess I did" I stared at my lap, embarrased by my actions. I didn't want to talk about the subjects but Lilly bet me to changing the subject.

"I don't want to go to get my clothes today"

"Why not?"

"Because... Well can't I just borrow some more of your clothes? We aren't going to school" she stated. I was content with that. If that is what she wanted then that is what would happen. I smiled at her and she smiled back, the bright and thoughtful smile I love.
