Perseus's POV

I was on the battlefield, gun in hand. I was running. From what, I didn't know, but I had to escape. Shots echoed behind me, following and surrounding my every move.

Then a beautiful melody opened up the ground below me. A voice wafted in and out of my consciousness, describing a beautiful land of dreams. Of freedom and peace. Birds sang in the trees, and a gentle breeze danced through the purple skies.

I closed my eyes and breathed in the fresh air. It was a lot cleaner than the dirty, stinky smog that I had to deal with on the battlefield. There was a sense of relief and calmness.

The soothing voice returned. It was much clearer now and it seemed to be...be calling me.

My eyes opened, and I saw a lady with blonde hair, tied in a graceful bun, and stunning gray eyes staring down at me, her eyes wide in shock.

"You're- you're alive," she stammered.

"Uh, not too sure. I might be dead, but I'll let you know tomorrow." I winked, wincing as pain shot up my leg.

"You drool when you sleep," the lady said, unamused. However, I could still see relief in the corner of her eyes and a small smile tugging at her lips. I instantly grinned through the pain.

Noticing my flinches, she asked, "How are you feeling?"

"Very tired. I feel like a thousand weights are holding me down and telling me to go to sleep." I yawned, fighting back the urge to close my eyes.

"Here, try to get some more sleep. I'll see what I could do about your leg amputation."

"My leg amputation?!" My eyes immediately shot open, staring at the gray eyes of the nurse. "What? Where am I?" I asked, my consciousness slowly recollecting my memories.

"You are at the North Carolina Military Institute Hospital. You seem to be experiencing some injuries, but don't worry, you are in good hands," she stated while my eyes were drawn to her hands.

"But didn't you just say you were going to amputate my leg?" I asked, my eyes full of doubt. I tried to look down at my leg, but a sharp stabbing pain forced me to stay still.

"It is all up in the air for now. Just focus on sleeping for now."

"Okay, whatever you say, Wise Girl," I muttered. She raised her eyebrows at my comment. "You're cute when you're worried. Your eyebrows get all scrunched together," I added, immediately blushing at my stupid comment.

She squinted at me, and immediately relaxed her brows on purpose. "Good night Perseus."

Something about her voice felt so familiar and comforting. As I was drifting off, someone pushed aside the curtains.

"Hello Dr. Apollo," the blonde nurse stated.

I barely heard a male voice respond:

"Is this the soldier with the leg I have to amputate?"
