Dominic's POV

"Do you have her?" I asked, swirling the blood red liquid in the glass. I had been sitting in my study since 3 in the morning. The ticking wooden clock on my wall read 8, now. Exhaustion gnawed at my insides.

"Yes"

"Feisty like I predicted?" Despite the grogginess a small smirk had managed to make its way on my face at the thought of Lucia fighting. Cute little kitten.

"Yeah! Gave, even Rosa a bloody nose"

"Did she now?" I asked, chuckling. I could feel Vincent's smile. But there were still more pressing matters at hand. "I have another task for you" My voice became serious once again, as Lucia's innocent face passed from my head. "Remember that Falcone waiter that gave us the info on Lucia? He has more news. Its important or so he says." I continued. "Pick him up. The address is on the way to the mansion. I have texted you the details" I heard Vincent sigh on the other side. Not in frustration, but exhaustion.

"Okay. Sure" He replied hastily, on realizing that I was still waiting and had guessed his reluctance. I ended the call, chucking the phone on the table. Lucia managed to keep us on our toes for the whole night. Wonder what she had accomplished by this little show. I closed my eyes and rested them on my palms, trying to catch a moment of peace. But alas-

A feeble thud on the knock filled the morning silence. "Come in" I said. The sound of the screws moving came to my ears and soft footsteps brushing against the carpet.

"You look stressed" Megan's melodic voice blocked the distant chirping of the birds. I looked up at her. The bright sun rays were giving her pale face a fulling touch of golden. She still wore her silk night shorts and shirt which missed a few buttons at the top. I smiled at her as she rubbed her frantic hair. She had walked straight out of bed, probably as soon as she saw Miguel and Rocco coming out of the study.

"Aren't you tenacious? I told you to get some rest. Did you even sleep a little bit?" I asked her, she was close enough for me to see the redness, steeling away the beauty of her turquois eyes. Or maybe beautifying it. It was hard to tell, really.

"Yeah, a little bit. Can't sleep when you are not there" She smiled slightly and settled herself on my lap. She snuggled in closer, her hair rubbing on my nose. I turned away, trying to avoid the stinging strands. "Now, can you tell me what happened?"

"Lucia tried to escape." I said, trying to keep my voice nonchalant. Megan was a sweetheart, but she had the tendency to get insecure. Not particularly crazy-ass bitch, but the thought of some girl with me would just keep gnawing at her the whole time, until she would just burst. And trust me, those outbursts aren't a piece of cake. At all.

"Oh." She replied back. Somehow, that single syllable managed to unsettle me, increasing my exhaustion. Making the softness of the bed, ever more enticing. I don't have the energy to deal with this.

"You are a little too occupied with her, aren't you?" she added, hesitantly. And almost as if realizing how she sounded, she tried to rectify. "I mean, how does she benefit you?"

I took a long breath. This will take sometime, but better now then later. "Well. I intend to use her as a leverage and negotiate into getting, Lux from the Falcone brothers."

"What is Lux?"

"A night club. Its at the heart of the city and the most expensive property in the whole state. You see, having your base in the middle of a city has a lot of benefits. All the other gangs have to comply with the owner of Lux because it is the hotspot for well....everything illegal"

"So, right now. They have the throne?" She asked, her voice light as a feather.

"Not exactly. And that's the strange part. They own it and still haven't started it. I can't figure out why yet. But it only works as an advantage for me. They don't have the alliance of any other gangs because of this same reason. Easy for me to crush them" I spoke, burying my head in her shoulder in hopes of silencing her.

"What do you plan to do, Dominic?" she asked, squirming  under me, her voice getting heavier with her breaths. But suddenly I stopped nibbling on her skin. I looked at her from the corner my eyes. I think I felt her shoulders stiffening.

"Why do you ask?" I decided to resume my actions but kept my ears perked up.

"No reason. Just curious. Your cold wars really fascinate me, you know?"

"You like the taste of blood, you little vampire" I teased her, biting on her ears and simultaneously earning a light gasp from her. She slid off of me, the next moment.

"Okay, lemme get something to eat. BRB" Megan sang, as she left the room.

"Okay"

Lucia's POV:

What am I going to do now? One chance to escape and I blew it. The car hit a bump, jerking all of us. My wrist jerked too and sent a shocking jolt of pain. Biting down on my lower lip, I blinked away the tears. Outside, there was nothing but barren land. For miles and miles. The yellow land sent chills down my spine. It represented my state of mind, hopeless and tired. I never thought I would ever miss the smell of stale coffee and sweaty armpits that wafted in the precinct or the disinfectant of my lab. The blue uniforms of the officers and the sense of security they gave me, even when I knew if my brothers or anyone from this wretched mafia life decided to have me, there was nothing stopping them. These leeches.

I missed my nana. Her food.

"You okay back there?" Vincent's voice interrupted me. He was in the seat in front of me, driving. Rosa turned around to look at me, just as I diverted my eyes outside the window, hoping she wouldn't notice the glazed state of them.

"Yeah" My voice came out coarse, partially because of the thirst and partially because of my stupid crying. "Do you have water?"

Rosa shuffled around, in the small cabinet in front her seat and tossed the bottle of mineral water. It hit squarely in my chest and fell into my lap, just as I realized there was no way I would be able to drink it with one broken and the other cuffed hand. So, I let it sit there, in my lap, as it taunted me with its wetness. I concentrated on the gravel that flicked off the road as a car sped across. Some random car comes and drives these pebbles away from their home and they just go with it, helplessly. Pathetic little rocks, unable to protect themselves. Reminds me of someone. I chuckled, as the thought occurred. Who am I to judge, anyway?

Rosa looked back at me, with scrunched up eyebrows before her eyes fell on the water bottle. She looked at me, and for some reason I could not look her in the eye. I felt ashamed. Helpless. Like those pebbles. Not even able to drink water.

She turned back. Wordlessly.

The mansion loomed over me, dark clouds gathered at its head. Like a crown. The sun, naturally, had disappeared, and the winds were picking up speed. Vincent had dropped the two of us by the door, before he sped off to attend to some "business". I was uncuffed but that iron gripped was replaced by another one. On my forearm. As I was dragged to the mansion.

"Hey! STOP" I cried out. My wrist, the broken one, dangled by my side. Bent at an unsightly angle. I stared at the protruding bone, stretching my brown skin. I felt sick, looking at it. "It fucking hurts. You don't have to treat me like an animal." I glared at her.

She turned around and walked towards the mansion. Black, traditional Italian, curls flowing and swinging with each lift of her hips. I didn't follow her. Not until, the thunder struck which sent me running to catch up to her.

I noticed the, red summer dress and the short figure of Megan, as I pushed past her, wincing as the pain shot through my arm. The wooden door screeched with the force as it slammed shut and I collapsed on the bed. And cried. Till my eyes were dry. But I didn't sleep, the searing pain wouldn't let me. Soon after I had curled up inside the warm bed, I saw the jagged white line in the grey sky, from the little window in the room. The light was followed by thunder. Loud thunder. Like the sky was crying out. I smiled. That makes the two of us.
