Growing up was often a struggle for me, especially because of the strict African parents I had. There will be no sleepover, no boyfriend, you will just magically marry your husband while there is no dating involved️ which still baffles me to this day. Certain African parents have a mentality that honestly shocks me. My parents have always been so strict. I do not know whether it's protectiveness or just restricting my happiness, but this isn't the life I want to pursue. I wasn't given birth just to have a life like this, no God didn't bring me to this earth for this. Having grown up in a horribly dysfunctional family, I have always wondered why God chose me to live in such a challenging situation. It's true that there are some perks to this family, but it's really done more than just breaking me. What makes it so difficult for me to live a peaceful life? I should be able to do that, why am I not able to? My aunt has always been my rock. I love her to bits honestly even though she may have had to get over the whole strict system with my parents she has stuck by me. Well, I should clarify, she stuck by me for those 17 years of my life.

Victoria's Flashback

Bullets blasted through every lamppost I could see through the side of my window. It was so bloody cold that my legs were as cold as an ice block. Every breath that left my mouth turned into steam (Guys don't worry she brushed her teeth👀). None of her parents was at home to protect her from any danger that may have occurred as they were checking up on patients' temperatures, reporting to the doctor, and wishing they had never left that house that day.

"BOO!" Her Aunty quickly turns her head towards Victoria and pushes her harshly out of the door followed with bursts of " GET THE HELL OUT OF MY ROOM!". Victoria's hands shake uncontrollably as tears rapidly fell down her ice-cold cheeks as she wonders why she's acting up. Victoria stood there looking at the door so hurt until she got dragged along the carpet.

Victoria quickly snatched her hands out of Uwanna's hand and smacked her lips "What!?"
"Keep that same attitude when your Aunty leaves tomorrow stoopid"
Victoria yanks Unwana back
"What.... did you say?"
"SHE'S LEAVING!" Those words pierced Victoria's heart. As they peered into her room, they had seen her packing and packing a whole load of clothes. Victoria's thoughts constantly rummaged through her mind 'Does she not love us?' 'What did I do to deserve this?' Streams of tears flowed out of her eyes as she knelt to the floor asking God for her help and guidance. The pain in her heart became so intense that she thought her heart was on fire. However, no matter how much water she used to try and extinguish it, the fire wouldn't go out. This caused her to fall asleep but wake up to the sounds of police sirens. Opening the curtain, she saw a lifeless body lying on the floor with blood leaking everywhere from cracks and crevices at the top of the street. Loud bursts of banging and knocks suddenly came from the door as Victoria cautiously opens the door mean-mugging her sister Uwanna.

"IS THE VICTIM DEAD" blasts out of the stupid policeman's radio, like dayuuummmm why did it have to be that damn loud?
"Sorry for the inconvenience, but are there any family members in the house at the moment"
Victoria nods and then rushes upstairs shouting "Aunty someone is looking for you" She repeats herself twice till she finally agrees that she wasn't going to hear an answer. Victoria slightly opened the door trying to find her Aunty and even searched deeper until
"Ouch!" A piece of paper had pierced Victoria's skin, with the words "I'm sorry" plastered across the paper. Victoria couldn't believe what she had seen. She checked everything, and nothing was left.
"Noooooo, this can't be" Uwanna and the police officer quickly ran up the stairs to find her sliding down the wall.
" What's the matter?"
" Your right Aunty.... is...gone"
"Sorry to tell you this, but... I'm afraid I'll have to tell your parents this news instead". Victoria looks at Uwanna as her lifeless body is dragged into the police car and reminisces about the good times she had with her aunt.

Victoria's parents quickly rush to them, checking if they have any marks anywhere, and ask the police officer " What happened?" Filling the room with silence as they waited to receive an answer " WHAT HAPPENED I SAID!"
" I am so sorry but... your sister, your Aunty has actually... been found dead"
As soon as those words dropped out of his mouth Victoria's vision became blurry, everything to her ears began to muffle as hot tears of both anger and sadness rushed out of her eyes. "WHYYYYY!!" The police officer spoke up again and announced that she got shot on the run and got herself into deep issues that apparently 'couldn't be resolved. Victoria couldn't handle it and cried even harder as she laid her head on Uwanna's lap, finding her hand to stroke her smooth relaxed hair. My protector was no longer here.

But the policeman had not yet finished what he had to say.
" She actually had a baby. Her father was also killed along with your Aunty for reasons we do not yet know. Meet Zemira-Grace your cousin and niece " A little cute brown skin baby had been wrapped in the hands of a policewoman.
" She looks so much like her mum🥺" as she gently takes her and caresses her face " Welcome to the family Zemira-Grace I will love you like your mine"
