“Excuse me?”

“Cyborg. A human robot.”

“Why’s my stutter gone?”

“I told you, I fixed it. Now listen to me. Leave.”

Aaron approaches me from behind and puts his hand on my back,

“I think we should listen to her Artemis.”

“No. I can’t leave her here.”

“Leave before he comes back Artie.”

“Who’s ‘he’?”

“All you need to know is that he’s dangerous. Now go before you die too.”

“I’m not leaving you to die.”

“It’s already too late for me Artie.”

“No. It’s not.”

“Yes, now go!”

The ground shook again. My grandmother’s eyes widened and she yelled,

“Go Artie! Now!”

This time I don’t object. But first I kneel down in front of my grandmother and kiss her forehead. She grabs my hands and puts something cool like metal inside them.

Opie then kissed my head in return, patted my hands, and said softly,

“Go honey. I’ll be fine.”

The tears falling down my face soaked into her shirt as I hugged her one last time. Aaron pulled me away from the hug I never wanted to end,

“Lets go Artemis.”

He dragged me away. Just as we were about to go through the door something pulled me back. I screamed as I was pulled into someone else’s grip, other than Aaron’s and the object in my hands flew out of my hand.

Before I could even comprehend what was going on I was thrown onto the floor next to my grandmother. She looked at me and whispered,

“No…”

A heavy weight weighed on my heart, not caring about the physical pain I’ve just endured. Before anything else could happen I yelled at Aaron who was probably going to try and find me,

“Run Aaron! Don’t let it get you too!”

“Too late…”

I turn toward the direction of the voice and there stood Mr. Aaron Jason. I place my head in my hands and mumble,

“We’re doomed…”

Something rushes past me and slams into Aaron, knocking him off his feet. I scream for him to get up but he doesn’t. He’s knocked out.

The thing that doesn’t even seem to be there picks Aaron up by the foot and stands in front of us. The thing speaking, even though you couldn’t see him, his voice sounded like he was going a million miles an hour,

“I’ve been looking for you, for the last ten years Artemis. You’re quite hard to find you know that. Now, you can either come with me and I’ll let your little boyfriend go, or don’t come and I smash his and your grandmother’s head off a brick wall at six hundred miles an hour.”

I couldn’t even see this man’s face, but I could feel the smirk on his face.

I start to lift myself off the floor and Opie grabs my arm,

“Don’t do this.”

“I have to. It’s the only way you and Aaron will get out of here alive.”
