Kaitlyn sat on her bed. She shared the room with her best friend Georgia. "So you're telling me that Malfoy, of all people went to see your brother get sorted into a house? That's so not him. Maybe someone was using a polyjuice potion or something?"
"No, he'd know if someone was planning to turn into him. He's extremely smart" Kaitlyn said, then seemed to go into a trail of thought about his intelligence.
"Speaking of how smart he is, you have to keep studying. You said you haven't all summer and now he's going to be miles ahead of you. You have to get higher that him, at least in one assessment."
Of course! Kaitlyn had completely forgot about the unspoken competition. She managed the same grade as him last year, but had to get higher this year. It would annoy him so much if a muggle born got better results than a pureblood.

The next morning, Kaitlyn woke up early and went to potions to get a head start. She thought that Malfoy probably would have been sitting in there to prove a point but he wasn't. She sat at her desk and opened her text book. The next potion they would be learning about would be Amortentia- a love potion. She read as much as she could before class started. "Can anyone tell me what Amortentia smells like?" The professor asked in his nasally voice.
Her hand shot up, and with a nod of the professor's head, she answered. "This is the most powerful love potion that there is, Sir. It has no fragrance itself yet smells different to every individual, according to what they are attracted to."
"Very good Miss Greenwood, ten points to Slytherin."
Kaitlyn smiled and looked around to see Malfoy's face. As she did, he ran through the door, looking like he had just rolled out of bed. His shirt was hanging out underneath his vest and his tie was hanging around his neck, still yet to be tied. She was confused. She had never seen his so untidy. Not even any gel in his hair which he would usually wake up early to do.
"And why are you late Mr Malfoy?" Asked Snape.
Malfoy looked around but, whatever the reason was, he didn't want to say it. He apologised to the professor and went to sit down. The only seat free was next to Kaitlyn. He searched and searched in his bag for his book but soon realised that he had left it behind. As soon as he settled, he looked around in confusion, smelling the air. "Bloody hell Greenwood, how much perfume did you spray today, it's suffocating!"
Everyone in the class laughed. It felt like they were watching a pantomime and pointing out the obvious to a stupid character on the stage.
"You'll find that's Amortentia, Malfoy" Ron said, laughing from the other side of the room.
"I don't understand" Malfoy said quietly.
"It's a love potion that smells like whatever you are attracted to" Hermione added.
Draco slumped back in his chair, he felt completely humiliated. The one time he didn't study for a class and this happens?!

Class had finished, Malfoy was the first to leave. He almost ran. Kaitlyn went to catch up with him when she saw him talking to Crabbe and Goyle. She hid behind the corner to listen to what they were saying. "Honestly boys, if I hear one more word I'll smash your heads together. Forget about what happened in there."
"Why were you late?" Asked Crabbe.
Malfoy looked around to see if anyone was close. He whispered just in case.
"Someone came into my room last night. Well a thing, I guess. But look at this!"
He lifted up the back of his shirt and showed them claw marks that had been scratched down his back. They looked bad. Almost as if they were made by a ware wolf or large animal.
"It looks like you had a rather good night to me, if you know what I mean" laughed Goyle.
"Yeah with your Mother." Said Crabbe, laughing at his joke.
Draco lifted his arms and then smacked the boys' heads together then walked back towards Kaitlyn.

She turned around, and walked away as fast as she could down the corridor when she bumped into her brother who stopped her in her path. He looked proud of himself, she wondered if he was like her and had just past his first assessment already when he came out with "Did you hear what happened to Draco Malfoy?"
"How do you know about that?" She questioned Charlie.
"It was me. How cool is that? He left his owl in a classroom and I used a spell that I learned to turn against him. He called you a mudblood, Katie. I was just protecting you."

She walked off, furious. She had learnt within the last day that Draco really wasn't as bad as she had thought- but he was late to class and completely humiliated because of her little brother. She decided that she was going to have to tell him. She just didn't know how.
