Kaitlyn woke up to the sound of her owl tapping on the window. She got up excitedly. She finally heard from Draco! She opened up the letter.Kaitlyn,
Hi. I haven't seen you around and didn't know if I had crossed a line last month after we spent lunch together. If I did, I'm very sorry.
You said that you and Malfoy weren't a thing but, when he saw us, he looked like he wanted to kill me. It's obvious he still likes you. Is it wrong of me to ask if you still like him?
Please don't ignore me. I'd really like to spend time with you again.
-Marcus.She had completely forgotten about that lunch with Marcus. That was the day that Dumbledore was killed. That's why Malfoy was sent to do something by Snape. He was supposed to do it while everybody was in class but Dumbledore was with Harry. It was probably the worst day for them to have spent lunch together. She was surprised that he hadn't brought it up to her in the last couple of days. She picked up a pen and a sheet of paper and wrote back.
Marcus,
I haven't been avoiding you. My brother doesn't feel too well so I brought him home, then I got sick. I enjoyed talking to you. I do still have feelings for Malfoy. I didn't realise until recently, but I do. Not that it means much to him or to you. See you around.
- Kaitlyn xShe felt horrible for lying about her brother and for being so blunt but she didn't really care about Marcus with all the things that were going on. A few hours later, her bird flew back with a letter. This time with different writing. The bird seemed extremely tired.
Katie,
It's Ron. We're back and we need your help finding the last (you know what) that shouldn't really be said in a letter. Could you get back to Hogwarts? We've got all of DA looking for it. Fred and George said that, when Umbridge stole their ball, you were the first one to find it. So we thought it would be good to message you. There's a lot you need to know. Also, don't bring Charlie.
(14th May)
-RonShe didn't know what was going on but she went. She got back to Hogwarts as quickly as she could. Standing at the door was McGonagall who smiled at her. "I knew you'd come back."
"What's going on, Professor?" Kaitlyn asked, as the sky filled with electric blue lines and smoke. "War, my darling. Now get inside, we've got it under control out here."
Kaitlyn ran inside and bumped into Professor Lupin who looked nervous. He pulled her into a hug. "No matter what happens, be brave, Kaitlyn." She nodded and went to walk off.
"Be careful, sir." She smiled even though she was shaking.
He turned round slowly, smiling. "You too, my dear."She had ran up about four flights of stairs when she found Harry, Ron and Hermione, all looking worse for wear. She hugged them all. Harry explained everything from the Malfoy Manor to what they were looking for. "There's only one place I can think of. The room of requirement."
They hurried to the wall, waited for an opening and bolted inside. The room was full of the most random items. They all looked around. Ron went one way, Harry another and Kaitlyn stayed with Hermione. Kaitlyn paused at a large object. That's what Malfoy had used to bring this death eaters into Hogwarts. That's when all of this started. She couldn't help but feel guilty for loving Malfoy but being best friends with the three people that he hated the most. "Guys I've got it!" Harry shouted out when a voice broke the celebration. "Well, well, well."
The other three hid behind inanimate objects watching through gaps. It was Malfoy. He was with Goyle and Blaise, asking for his wand back, while pointing his mother's at Harry.
"Don't be a prat, Malfoy. Do it." Goyle said.
Hermione ran out "Expelliarmus" she disarmed Draco, sending the wand flying.
"Avada Kedavra" Goyle shouted, aiming at Hermione. Ron pulled her out of the way and ran after him shouting "that's my girlfriend you numpty!" The two laughed but then stopped when they remembered how serious the situation was. The spell had knocked the diadem out of Harry's hand. He was climbing to reach it. Spells were flying everywhere, Malfoy had ran in the opposite direction. Kaitlyn wanted to find Draco, but she had come back to help them. Harry jumped down. Ron ran up behind them screaming
"Goyle's set the bloody place on fire." Kaitlyn ran for her life with the three to get out. There were only three broomsticks that they found so she shared one with Hermione.
She turned round to look at the fire when she saw Draco and Blaise clinging onto a table at the very top of a pile of burning wood. "Harry!" She screamed.
Harry turned back, Ron followed. Harry grabbed Malfoy and pulled him onto the broom. The girls had made it safely outside and hugged each other, thinking that they could have just died when the four boys crashed to the floor. "Talk to him. Quickly." Hermione said, pushing Kaitlyn towards the tall blond boy. He snatched his wand off of Harry and hurried down the corridor. "Draco! Oi! Malfoy!" Kaitlyn screamed down the corridor that she chased him down. He turned round and stared at her. He walked closer to her and pulled her round a corner. "I told you not to come back, Kaitlyn. You're not safe here." He was angry.
"You may not get to choose what side you're on but I do. I love you. I do."
"Don't say that. Not right now. Not before all of this."
"I do love you. But I choose to stick with my friends, with what's right."
"So we're against each other?" He asked. She nodded.
"Promise me that you will stay safe."
"I promise, Katie." He said softly, pulling her into his chest. He needed the comfort more than ever and so did she.
A tear ran down his cheek but he stopped himself from crying in front of her. He had to be brave. "I love you." He kissed her and walked off. She went the opposite way. Before turning each corner, they looked back at each other. "Your shoelace is untied!" She shouted out, breaking the intensity of the moment. He looked down and shook his head, he looked back up, smiling at her. It wasn't untied. He gave her a nod as if to say: see you soon. She smiled.
