Sammy came into Iris life when she needed her most before Hogwart. The summer before Haggard came to take Iris to Hogwart, Iris and Artemis decide to go to the library after Iris got out of school. Little did Iris know but the person she was about to meet would change her life forever.
As Iris was walk do the isles of the public library with Artemis in her pocket, she felt something hit the back of her head. She turned around and on the ground was a paper air plane so she picked it up and looked around only to find a little girl with pretty brown hair looking at her with a huge goofy smile. Iris looked at her for a moment and asked, "Did you throw this at me?"
The little girl looked at Iris and said, " Duh, how else was I supposed to get your attention? My name is Samantha Martin but you can call me Sammy. Would you like a piece of chocolate?"
Iris was dumb founded because for as long as she could remember nobody had ever offered her anything especially not chocolate so she looked at Sammy and said, "Sure, my name is Iris."
Sammy handed Iris a piece of chocolate and as they both began to eat she looked at Iris straight in the eye and said, " You ate my chocolate so now you are my best friend. You know like how Persephone ate pomegranate from Hades and became tied to him. Now you are my person." Iris looked at her confused because she had never heard of that before and at that very moment Artemis decide to slither out of Iris pocket and wrap around Sammy's hand.
Artemis said, "She smells of magic like you. We should keep her."
Iris looked at Sammy and said, "She likes you." And from that point forward the two girls were inseparable. Everyday that summer Iris and Sammy would meet in the library and read different books about mythical place and the Greek gods and goddesses and in those moments Iris forgot all about her home life and was able to act how a child should.
