"Y/N! Got a case request for you."

You sighed, taking the file from JJ. The blonde woman gave you a sympathetic smile, staying by your desk as you read the file.

"NCIS? I can count on one hand how many times I've had to assist them."

JJ nodded, crossing her arms. Both agents knew of the agency's reputation for going against authority, but with a solve rate like that they were enviable.

"This one's from their director. Old cold case of theirs involving the FBI just went hot."

You sat back in your chair, mulling over the details from the file.

"Don't think I've met their field agents either."

"That's because we've only interacted with agents afloat. Their Agent DiNozzo did call here a couple months ago but we never heard back."

"Fun." You stood up, taking the file and your jacket with you. Though you mostly worked alone, you tended to bring along someone if they were available.

"Who's free today? Might need some help with this one."

"I think Hotch should be able to go with you. He's been working since he got in this morning, and cases are slow right now." JJ took out her phone, responding absentmindedly.

"Call NCIS and tell them we're on our way there."

"On it."

You left your office quickly, knocking twice on Hotch's door before letting herself in. He stood up at the sight of you.

"Case?"

You shook your head, tilting it with a smirk. "One of mine. It's your turn, Aaron."

The man chuckled, a rare smile on his face. Ever since he'd finally warmed up to you those few months ago, you'd made it your personal mission to get him to express emotion at least once a week. Most of the time, you succeeded.

"Let me get my jacket and I'll meet you at the elevator."

Instead of walking away, you waited for him to finish clearing his desk, helping him put on his jacket while he stared at you.

As you brushed lint off of Hotch's jacket with a light pat, you realized he'd stopped moving.

"What?"

He was looking at you strangely, almost as though he was committing something to memory. Before you could comment on it, he shook his head.

"Nothing."

You gave him a look, before moving away and putting your hands back down.

"C'mon. They're expecting us."

As the two of you made your way out of the office, Hotch kept a hand on the small of your back as you filled him in.

If either of you noticed, neither decided to say anything.
