"Eugene, what's going on?"
We were standing in the middle of a busy area. Maybe a train station or an airport, I was too stressed out to bother figuring out which. There had been people carrying suitcases and going to what I assumed where check-in counters barely seconds ago. That was right before a young woman screamed and all attention was drawn to us. People had started to disperse very quickly as if we had brought the black plague or something. A little more dramatic than the last time, but maybe they were all just scared since we appeared out of nowhere. I turned to a very confused Dr. Norman and looked into his eyes.
"I hope you believe me now. You refused to come with me, so I figured we might as well trip from your office. I knew it had to be a safe area because the video you showed me proved that I saw people here as a kid. But we really have to leave. I think they'll be on to us any moment now."
"What...how are you doing this?"
"No time to explain. We have to go back. Right now."
Dr. Norman looked terrified. He backed away from me. I knew he was surprised and confused but I was more concerned about whether or not their cops would show up. They had managed to find us in a river under a few minutes. A busy area like this with lots of people could lead to a shitstorm within seconds.
"Dr. Matt, seriously, we don't have time."
"What did you do to me?"
"Nothing. I just took you with me to Kana's world. But we have to go back now before-"
"INTRUDERS, SHOW NO RESISTANCE. YOUR LOCATION IS SURROUNDED."
The sound seemed to come from everywhere at once. I panicked. They were here already. Seriously, it had been less than twenty seconds. Were they just hanging around and expecting us? If they were, then it was very likely that they also had weapons and were prepared to have us handcuffed and thrown in jail or something. Or maybe they just wanted us dead.
"Shit."
Dr. Norman looked around, confused. I could see that there were several Security men coming towards us. One of them ran up quickly. I side-stepped and barely managed to avoid being tackled. He was an Acceleron type - I remembered Kana's description of them - and he was moving just like her brother. I jumped towards Dr. Norman before the man had time to stop and turn back towards us. I squeezed my eyes shut and focused. Escape. Escape. Escape. The air suddenly felt cool and I heard the low hum of the air conditioners. I opened my eyes. We were sitting on the floor of the office. Dr. Norman scrambled away from me and got up quickly.
"You were in the- Just now, we were...what are you?"
"I don't know. I discovered I could do that just last week. Like I told you, I'm not hallucinating."
"What the heck was that? Who were those people? How did they-"
"Homini. Just like I told you. I wanted you to come to my house so we could go to a much safer area but you weren't listening to me. So I had to do it here, cuz I didn't want you to throw me in a psych ward."
"This is crazy."
"That's what I thought. Please, Dr. Matt, don't tell anyone, I don't want to end up as some weird government experiment."
Dr Norman eyed me tentatively and took a seat on the couch. He looked completely confused and he stared at me with an expression which might have been fear. It was a little muted, but it was there. I'm sure he was trying to keep his cool but there was no way he could act as if everything was still normal. Greg was much better at this than he was. I thought about Greg again. I wondered where he was and what was going on with him. A knock on his office door interrupted us and I tensed up.
