How come I can never get uninterrupted sleep? Every night some demon or god plays a sick game with me. Tonight I got an extra special visit.
A woman dressed in complete battle armor walks toward me. Her golden curls and gray eyes match my own. The goddess of wisdom, war, and crafts is coming towards me.
"Athena!" I exclaim.
"Hello daughter," Athena said.
Now you might be confused. I am what you would call a 'Half-blood", half human and half god. Also I'm a quite well known half-blood, my name is Annabeth Chase.
"I'm afraid our reunion will have to be short," Athena said. "Olympus is in disarray. That insufferable goddess Nyx has stolen the Pendant of Healing from Apollo."
Oh no. The last time a item was stolen from a god it woke up the titans and that ended up waking the giants who tried to wake Gaea.
"Wait, what is the Pendant of Healing?" I ask. "I thought I knew about every major godly item."
"The Pendant is a piece of amethyst that was mined out of Mount Olympus. It has great healing properties that can be used on humans or gods. You didn't know about it because Olympus decided to keep it a secret because it can bring back the dead and many other unimaginable feats."
"So what is Nyx planning to do with it?"
"I'm not sure but, whatever it is it won't be good. There is also the possibility that she will give it to one of her many kids."
"That's terrible."
"Well, the reason I came is that the Olympians have choose you."
Not another quest.
"What does that mean?"
"You have to go down to Nyx's Palace and retrieve the pendant."
No, no, no, no, and no! But I can't say no to Olympus. Wait, what will Percy (my boyfriend) think? We just got back from Tartarus, a place similar to hell, and now we'll have to go back because Nyx's palace is there. I don't think I can do this again.
"I can see your concerned, girl. But we already have a plan set up for you," Athena said with a quizzical look on her face.
"What's the plan?"
"The details aren't completely set out. The main idea is you will go down to her palace and serve as her handmaiden. The previous maiden ended up leaving because one of Nyx's sons married her."
"So how will the two other members get to the palace."
Quests are given to a quest leader who chooses two people to accompany the leader.
"Unfortunately, this quest will be solo."
"Correct me if I'm wrong but, I have to go Nyx's palace, retrieve the Pendant, make it back alive, and do it completely alone."
"Yes, that sound correct."
"Since I really have no choice, when do I start and when do I need to be back?"
"You start once you wake up and you don't have a deadline but, be back as soon as possible. I'm sorry, I will have to depart."
Now in an instant I was gone from Athena's presence and my eyes are open.
