I look down as we walk towards the portal. My heart feels like its pumping out of my chest, which doesn't happen often in situations that should be normal. Should this be normal? A vacation after a rampant war between good and evil for years? It is normal, I remind myself.
I look over at Asami. She seems so intrigued by the portal. I mean, who wouldn't? No one really knew that a weapon with the ability to blow up a city could become a gateway to the realm of spirits: ancient beings with almost unlimited power. Asami looks over at me and smiles. I smile back and reach for her hand. We look at the portal, watching the green blinding light shining over the field of vines. It feels so quiet, but I can hear the traffic of Republic City from here.
Finally, after what feels like minutes, we reach the edge of the portal. It reaches miles up into the sky, a light so bright that someone could see it at the edge of the city. Asami turns towards me. I gaze into her eyes. Her deep, romantic, green eyes. So green. Could it be the light reflecting off her eyes from the portal? Or are her eyes really green? No. They are really green. I remember.
Asami puts her hand on my face and I can't pull away my focus on her eyes. I feel the strong spiritual energy around us, flowing through me and pulling us into the spirit world. Asami brings my face closer to hers, and her soft lips brush against mine. I close my eyes and put my hands on her hips and bring her even closer. I wish this would never end. Am I going to be able to act normally after this? What even is normal anymore? It's normal, I remind myself, yet again.
Asami slowly pulls away and smiles at me. She holds onto my hand and walks into the spirit world, bringing me with her. "Beautiful." She whispered. The first word she had said in minutes. Though, I'm sure she spoke silently with her eyes. "Yeah." I laugh softly. "It really is." I look over at Asami. I can't believe I didn't take her here before.
"What should we do first?" Asami looks over at me, her eyes bright and excited. I can feel her happiness just by looking into her eyes. I laugh. "Let's go see Iroh! He will know what to do. Or, or, we could go to Wan Shi Tong's Library! There's so many cool things there and it's kind of a spirit hotspot." I say excitedly. It seems like the kiss we just had didn't even happen. I don't know. I'm bad at reading people.
Asami laughs. "We're in the spirit world, silly, this whole place is a spirit hotspot." She smiles and starts walking in a random direction. I guess I'll follow her, I mean I know just as much about this place that she does.
"Oh my gosh, look at those super cute bunnies! They can fly!" Asami says through her smile. "Yeah! Those are actually dragonfly bunny spirits. Jinora and Bumi really had a thing for them." I say. She smiles. Her smile is so bright, I don't think I've seen her smile that big before. It's almost as if she's let go of everything that happened.
Asami starts running towards the dragonfly bunny spirits, pure joy, and spite radiating around her. I smile, unknowingly giddy, and run after her.
This all feels like a dream. Is this even real? It would feel real with Mako and Bolin around...I just don't know. But I like this. I like this a lot.
Hey everyone! I'm going to be uploading a new part weekly :) If you want to contribute to the story, please post on my "Conversations". Thanks <3
