Ch. 7- shit again?
-
It's 5:46pm. I realized it was getting late and I should be heading home soon.
I only hung out with Hyde for a few minutes and eventually went over to Donna's house to talk to her. I knew she was upset earlier and it seemed like she did want me to come over so I decided to wait a bit so she can relax.
I walk through their backyard to the side door that leads to their kitchen.
Bob, Donna's Dad, was sitting at the table eating a sandwich.
"Hey, Bob," I say a little startled because I was expecting Donna, "is Donna here?"
"Oh, hey Bones!" He turns to me smiling with some bologna showing through his teeth. "She's upstairs." And he dives back into his sandwich.
"Thanks." I say and head up the stairs. I walk down the hallway to her door on the right. I don't knock, because I never do, and I see not only Donna in her room, but Jackie. They were both sitting on the end of Donna's bed. Donna with one leg up on the bed and one leg hanging over, Jackie was sitting crisscross. Their hands were intertwined and they were kissing.
"Jesus Christ again?" I think terrified.
I don't even say anything, I just squeak causing both of them to immediately whip their heads to the doorway where they see me standing there like a dumbass. I didn't even realize my hand was still on the doorknob and that my jaw was gawking open.
They both stand up.
Still no one saying a word yet, Donna runs over to her door and shuts it frantically but carefully so it doesn't slam getting Bob's attention.
"What did you see?" she asks me slowly and calmly.
Jackie looks the most scared I've ever seen her.
"Uh-" I start to say.
"GOD BONES, FUCK-" Donna blurts out and slams her mouth shut with a loud slap of her hand realizing Bob could've heard that.
She walks sulking back over to her bed and drops her head into her hands. I notice she does this when embarrassed.
Jackie now finally speaks up and puts a hand to her forehead, "Oh, man." She barely even whispered how quietly she said that.
"I didn't see that coming." I say nervously chuckling, not knowing what else to say.
Donna stands up really fast pointing a finger in my face "You cannot say anything to anyone." She basically hissed that out.
I take a step back kind of threatened. I'm definitely not chuckling anymore.
"I wasn't planning on it."
"Holy shit are we all just secret gays?" I say inside excited and curious. "But why do I have to find out every single time Jesus-"
I was thinking about telling them about Hyde and I in that instant to relieve the tension but we haven't talked about telling the group yet. I wouldn't do that without telling him first.
"What even.. started this?" I ask warily but also really curious. I didn't know if Donna would actually hurt me this time if I asked.
"Jackie was um, she was just comforting me and my emotions got to the best of me." Donna says almost disappointed or ashamed.
"I swear we didn't do anything. You walked in right as soon as it started." Jackie blurts out.
I had no idea what was going on. I was really confused. I kept thinking about Buddy and her "date"? I still don't know what to put together, the puzzle pieces are really scrambled.
"So was the thing with Buddy today at the Hub a... date?" I ask with this really confused face.
"What? No!" Donna says disgusted. "Buddy and I were actually studying." she says directed at Jackie.
Jackie puts up defensive hands and widens her eyes, fake intimidated. I realized I needed to ask Donna what's going on, but privately so I don't embarrass her.
"Hey Jackie, is it okay if I talk to Donna alone for a second?" I ask her.
Jackie looks at Donna and crosses her arms "Sure." She said to me, almost like asking her to leave the room was a huge inconvenience.
Jackie steps out and closes the door behind her. I sit down on the bed next to Donna. Donna's bed is so much more comfier than Hyde's.
"Is Buddy your crush?" I ask already knowing the answer.
She scoffs out a "No."
"Is Jackie?" I whisper in case Jackie was peeping from the other side of the door.
Donna looked up like I just caught her by surprise.
She opened her mouth like she wanted to say something, she softly closes her open lips and looked down at her hands and was playing with her fingers.
"Hm." I say and sit back more relaxed on her bed. "You guys would make a cute couple." I say teasing but also not, I genuinely believed they would be a cute couple.
"Shut up." Donna says and nudges me with her elbow.
She flops on her back on her bed and lets out a breath of air. I follow her lead and lay down next to her.
"Yeah," Donna whispered "I do like Jackie." She said smiling ever so slightly. Her expression changed and she put her hands on her face dragging it down to her chin. "Oh my god I like Jackieeeee." She says this time more agitated than lovesick.
I laugh at her confusion. "I think you should tell her." I say nudging her thigh.
A knock comes from the other side of the door "Can I come back in now?" Jackie's muffled voice behind the door asks with a tone of impatience.
Donna looks at me and sighs. "Yes, Jackie." She says sitting up now.
Jackie walks back in, she looked like a puppy who had been playing with something it shouldn't have. She looked warily at Donna. Donna stood up from her bed and walked right up to Jackie. I would say eye level, but Donna is a good 5 inches taller than Jackie.
I sit up on my elbows, wondering what's gonna happen. Donna didn't give me a reassurance she would tell her or not so who knows where this'll go. They were both staring into each other's eyes. Jackie was slightly looking up at Donna, ya know, the height difference.
"Jackie,... I-" before Donna can even say anything, Jackie goes on her tiptoes and grabs her face and kisses her hard. Donna was caught off guard but soon caught on and cupped Jackie's face with her hands.
My jaw dropped. I knew if this were a sit-com, there would be hollering and clapping coming from the audience right now.
"Holyyyy shit." I think to myself.
"Am I like, a matchmaker angel or something? I swear, I walk into this way too often. Who's next? Bob and Red- ew wait no yeesh cross that out." I shudder to myself at the mere thought.
They finally let go of each other, they're still holding the other's face in their delicate hands. They start giggling. Jackie leans to the side to look at me and says "I don't know what you told her, but thank you. You tell a soul and I'll kill you."
I put up my hands like to show them I fucking won't, I believe you.
"So we're all secretly dating each other in this group and I'm literally the only one who knows about the rest. This can't go well." I think to myself almost worried.
