I messaged Bruce as soon as I was safe, just saying I needed him to come in for a meeting. And not even an hour later he had managed to evade the press and was there. He looked exhausted. Probably fending everyone off along with all his acting, no one ever thought about the acting that goes into this career.
"What's the problem?" He asked.
"I almost didn't get out of there," I replied, "My leg started playing up, my breath came far to short much quicker then I thought it would and Wally came over. I probably would have been able to fight him off but he offered me a deal. I'm meeting him back at the manor, 11 tonight."
"That's not long, are you sure you're up to it?" He said as he sat down next to me on the sofa.
"Yes. I have to. He didn't want to arrest me, there might still be a chance this will be fixed. And with what we've done tonight-"
"I wouldn't be so sure about tonight," Bruce cut me off and handed me a note, "Anonymously dropped in my pocket whilst I was trying to get out. Someone was there, watching."
Nice try Kid, but you really think I'd be that easy to outsmart. But I'll give you a point for trying.
"You're kidding me, all of that, and we got nothing," I was close to giving up at this point.
"I'm sorry Dick," Bruce said as he brought me in for a hug, "I wish there was something more I could do. Anything. We will sort this out. I promise."
"Yeah," But I didn't believe him as I snuggled into his shoulder, and I don't think he believed it himself either.I arrived at the manor just before time to see Wally already there in his Kid Flash gear.
"You came?" And I was a little bit offended when he actually sounded surprised.
"Of course. I made a deal. And I don't break deals, promises and I don't lie," I replied as I made it up to him.
"You got your crutches back?"
"Huh? Oh no. I had two pairs," I replied, "I picked these up when I had to run."
"Makes sense," He replied, "I'm not here to arrest you tonight."
"I gathered, or you would have done it back there tonight. It was your best chance. I was already severely short of breath because of the show and the running. And I didn't have any leg support when I was running," I mused aloud.
"Look, I just, I want to know the truth," He said and sat down on the cold floor, "No lies, and if you've done what everyone says you've done. I'll let you go tonight, but I'll have to arrest you if I ever see you again."
"Why?"
"Why what?"
"Everywhere I turn at the moment, I'm the new criminal mastermind of Gotham. My face is plastered on every wall with a reward, I'm all over the news, apparently I was even in Lex Corp on a heist. Why are you different?" I asked as I sat next to him.
"Because there's someone on the team who seems adamant you're being set up," He admitted, "And I want to believe them."
"It's not me," I told him, "I haven't planted those bombs, I haven't stolen from Bruce or Lex. I haven't done anything anyone seems to think I have. That night in the alley, that voice. I didn't know him, but that guy, I couldn't let him die. I had to do something and the other guy I was with couldn't do anything. It was a reaction, and I don't know if I'm glad I can do it or not anymore."
"Yes, we heard all about that when it was reported in to us," Wally said, "How you didn't know the guy was around the corner but you knew someone was behind the door and the best way to take them down."
"Can I ask you a question Kid Flash?" I asked.
"You just did," He joked and I held back a smile.
"Okay, can I ask you three questions?"
"Shoot."
"You've spoken to Wally, he was the ginger one that evening," I started, "When he first started talking to me that day of the auditions he was like any other fan. But then he showed up at my gym and he seemed nice and I invited him round, I don't know why. And we bonded and then he asked me out for a date and I got so excited, but then I had to leave early because Bruce called and it actually hurt me to leave him there. I thought maybe it would get better, and when he texted me again I thought it was and that was when I decided to shoot my shot and test the waters and then, well, you know what happened. Anyway, that's a really long-winded way of asking, what does Wally think of me?"
"He think's you're awesome," Wally replied after a moment of silence, "And he has a gut feeling that you're innocent but he can't find any reason to believe it. And he wanted to go on a date with you. He really did but he needed to test the waters too, which is why he invited you out that night. To test the waters. And, if you can be proven innocent, he said he'd love to meet up with you again because... because he loves you."
"Like you and Robin, sorry Nightwing's his new name isn't it?"
"What?" He suddenly became very alert again, "I don't- we're not-"
"Chill, I'm gay too you know," I said, "Well, bi I think, I've dated girls, but anyway. Everyone who watches the news can see it. You're both in love with each other."
"He's not gay," Wally said, "He's only dated girls, and not even ones that would be like me. I mean one's like Zatanna."
"The magician?"
"Yeah. I heard that he's also been around with Starfire and Raven, but I'm not sure. He wouldn't fall for me," He laid back on the grass and I joined him.
"How about we make another deal," I asked and we turned to look at each other, both of us trying to hide our blushes as our faces were merely inches apart, "You ask Nightwing out, and I'll meet you every night so you can see it wasn't me. That there will be another robbery or bombing that I'm the cause of whilst I'm right here."
"That's a bit of an unfair deal," He replied, "I feel like I've got more to lose."
"I don't think you do," I replied, "My whole life is literally on the line."
"Okay, fine, but you've got it wrong by the way," He agreed, "Nightwing isn't the top of my list because I don't even know who he is."
"Maybe you know who he is more then you would if you knew his identity," I argued, because that was closer to the truth, "But humour me, who is the top?"
"You are," He turned on his side to face me better and I copied.
"I am? I'm flattered. But I'm not sure I believe you."
"What would make you believe me?" He asked as he moved closer.
"Kiss me."
And he did.
