Hey guys, I'm sorry this is not a chapter. But I wanted to have this little awareness update since my friend showed me this wonderful video understanding an ADHD episode. Since I myself have ADHD, as do majority of the characters in this book series, I feel it's important for readers to understand how hard having ADHD can be, and that it shouldn't be romanticised as 'cute' and 'quirky'.Coming from my own personal experiences, it is frustrating, sudden, annoying and makes me go into such bad times that have caused loss of friendships, a degrading relationship with my family, and other terrible things that people seem to look past.
ADHD isn't just hyperactivity. It's on the Autism spectrum, and in itself has its own spectrum. For everyone it is different. But not one is less troubling, or less important to focus on than the other. For the individual, disassociation can be just as troubling and just as scary as hyperactivity. Frustration can lead to depression, or heightened anger that can come across aggressive and dangerous. I have yet to hurt someone physically due to my aggression, but I have had moments where I have scared my friends and my family due to the impulsivity that these aggressive actions to myself and objects have caused.
ADHD is also differing between genders. Due to the stereotypes given towards it, boys are easier to be diagnosed than girls because the hyperactivity is more present. But that doesn't mean it doesn't occur to girls either. We all understand ADHD to be hyperactivity, but it is much deeper than that. I could explain everything, but a video made depicting an episode on YouTube that my friend showed me is a visual representation of some of the things that can go down. Obviously, once again, this does not apply to everyone who has it, but it is a great depiction of my own ADHD experiences, and some of the experiences Claire and other characters in this book have.
