38 days later...
We could see the ground now.
To be honest, I wish we couldn't.
There were limbs and the smell of rotting flesh outside. It was dead quiet, no one came to help.
We were initially planning to leave around the 20 day mark, however, we still had Elena, Jade and Sloane to worry about.
Jade still didn't want anything to do with the baby, since I was producing enough milk for Athena, we were feeding Sloane formula and some pumped milk from Jade, even though she wasnt producing much.
But today, today we were planning to finally settle what was going to happen.
Eli and I were playing a game on the tablet while Athena and Sloane slept on the mattress.
Jade and Elena were both still asleep while Harry laid with his head on my lap, he had been clingy and restless when I wasnt around him. I knew he was probably struggling with something, I wasnt going to push him though, we were both not in the mental state for a fight.
We'd have to go soon. We couldnt get a hold of Gemma and Lake so that was very worrying, our plans to go to Alegora were still up, though.
Eli kept playing the game while I ran my hand through Harry's hair, occasionally looking down at him.
He looked so peaceful and calm, everything I wanted for him right now. He needed the rest. He was up in the late hours of the night to find a way to get water and food for us. Meanwhile I stayed up with the two babies, but I had managed to instill a good schedule for them even with what was going on.
Harry suddenly shot up in fright, hitting the top of his head on my chin, making Me bite the tip of my tongue.
"Ow, holy fucking shit, Harry!" I exclaimed in a whisper, my mouth filling with blood.
"Oh my god, I'm sorry I had a bad dream.' He held my face in his hands, "Shit, I'm sorry."
"Its okay, ow, be careful. What was your dream about?"
"Nothing, I just... dead bodies."
I sighed as I sat up on my knees, holding his head in my hands, "You need to stop going down there so often. Its messing with you."
He shook his head, "I'm fine."
I nodded, "You're not, but you're very stubborn."
He rolled his eyes with a smile, "I'll be okay."
I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and spit out some of the blood coming from my mouth and came back to find everyone seemingly awake.
"So..." Jade started, "I guess Y'all are leaving today?"
"That's the plan." I said, assuring her that nothing was certain.
"Well, you guys know we dont want her." Jade coughed, "And you guys are going to a safer place. Maybe put her up for adoption there."
I knew Harry and I both wouldnt have the courage to ever do that. Besides, the trip to Alegora was almost a year and a half. By then, both girls will be walking and talking if everything went as planned.
"I guess you're right, to be honest." Harry muttered, "We have the capability and the effort for that. It's really just not my choice at this point. I say this because its true, but I'd do anything Soren tells me to do, so now, it's her final word." Harry shrugged, stepping back from the conversation as if I had it from here.
Was this a good idea?
Probably most likely not. But I am a sucker for children, and if I could make this one child feel wanted and loved and cared for, I'd do it. Because I didn't have that opportunity when I was a child. I wasnt wanted or loved, and I never want to be the person that made a child feel like that, because I have the choice to help this baby.
"Yeah, we'll do it." I nodded my head, "I know you don't care much, but I promise I'll do my best for her."
"The little in me that does care is very thankful. I know I can trust you." Jade sighed as she looked back at her daughter, "Hey maybe one day we'll make it to Alegora and meet her. Keep in touch."
I smiled softly, "Definitely."
Harry and I got to packing. Everything was going into bags and the babies going into strollers. Harry had gotten a stroller for Eli and Athena, so it was a double stroller, which was definitely something we needed. Eli could walk, or I could carry him. Or maybe he could be on the little step for older kids.
I put the cover over the stroller, shielding the girls from the rain, smell and possible toxins.
I realized we would have to find a way for Eli not to get intoxicated or smell the rotting flesh.
Harry would have to carry him on his back.
"Hey, we could stop by that baby store on the way and grab one of their triple strollers. I doubt they got wet with the amount of plastic they're wrapped in."
"That's a better idea. Just carry him for now." I told him. We had everything packed and ready to go by now.
We'd have to walk a few days to the port though, so we'd better get going.
It was probably the first time I'd seen Jade interact with Sloane. She kissed her goodbye and didn't shed one tear. She was comfortable with her decision.
Sloane was in the stroller again and I put the cover over them. Athena was still sleeping peacefully so she was unbothered. She was getting way too big way too early.
"So, I guess this is goodbye for now." Harry spoke first.
They both nodded, "Yep."
We exchanged quick hugs and goodbyes and we were soon out the door. Taking one extra child than we came in with.
"So, the store first?" I asked as we stepped out in the humid, hot outside.
Harry wrinkled his nose, "Yeah, hurry up."
I bit my lip in cringe when I saw the dead bodies all sprawled out on the ground, with unrecognizable features, the smell was terrible.
I was scared this was going to harm Eli.
He had his head tucked into Harry's chest, eyes closed and fingers gently tapping in rythm on Harry's shoulder.
We stepped inside the store as soon as we saw it, hurrying inside to find what was needed.
Hi, sorry for the late update! How's
everyone?
