A City Within A City

The Ally was most certainly not the cleanest place nor did it feel like a home to others but to me it was a private sanctuary where no one truly knew how it was there own city within a city but only those called "street rats" knew of such glory in the streets it wasn't as bad as everyone else put it. Of course for me it was all I had ever known my parents were street rats but I could only ever dream to put a face to the names I had known my whole life but then again could you ever really tell who is who when we all look the same with our faces caked and dirt and all we really look like are skin and bones? not that it mattered to us anyways we were just content to have somewhere to fit in. I rounded the corner one of the many entry ways to the streets. We liked to keep it a bit more private than others; we didn't like children meddling with our unknown treasures. I crouched through the alley where three paths all lead to different areas and corner crannies for makeshift homes. I took the path that looked like it was completely abandoned with a flickering light at the front and followed it. After a good 5 minute walk I rounded the last corner I took my pouch and slid it under the dark wooden door. My home was a lot like the others built within narrow walls and fences except mine was in the most shady part of the streets so it was fully disguised but its not like you could see it anyways the suns raze had never touched this area so I used many old black cloths to keep it covered and I had found some old furniture and more home supplies out of an old cabin that seemed vacant at the time and took the door off as well I get it you must be thinking why not just stay in the cabin? well to answer your non existent question like I said at the time was vacant I didn't really know if it was abandoned and I did try but after a week I became paranoid and it didn't feel like home so I came back and I think it was the best decision I have had so far because I couldn't really leave my best friend Caleb for to long. After sliding my pouch under the door I kicked my heel in a code and instantly the door creaked open revealing a very worried Caleb "Rina what are you doing back so late I told you to be back at least before sunset!". Caleb and I share a shack is what we liked to call them it was still small but we both fit inside comfortably "Chill out I was 'Collecting' some items and how do you know what time it is unless you went out?" Caleb looked back at me after shutting the door and flashed me a toothy grin "well since you so kindly asked It would be rude not to tell". Caleb reached into his pocket only to pull out a rusty silver pocket watch " What do you think eh flashy right now I can get to the scrap yard in time for the first dump" I simply rolled my eyes the scrap yard was like his treasure chest I preferred getting my items new and unused unlike Caleb so that meant I would usually pocket items out of small shops or slip them into my pouch. At the thought of it I picked my pouch up and sat down on the concrete floor while slowly dumping out my pouch that today consisted of 6 tooth brushes, 2 boxes of sanitary products, 4 boxes of matches a loaf of bread, and a jar of peanut butter it wasn't as much as I pick up on a normal day but it would definitely get us some coin the truth is I don't steal for Caleb or myself much we had what we needed but instead I sold it to others in the streets for as little as a few coins so they could get what they needed for a very low price plus it wasn't like I didn't make anything out of it. Caleb placed his watch between both of our makeshift beds that were only three cushions held together with a sheet, I plopped onto my bed and removed my shirt leaving me only in a sports bra that I had found in an old bag of clothes a few years back I looked over at Caleb who tried not to stare " Keep your eyes to yourself bud" I chuckled looking over at a beet red Caleb the thing is nudity isn't a problem in the streets we weren't embarrassed of how we look I honestly haven't seen myself in over a year but I don't really have time to primp into a mirror when your stealing from the place. Thinking of how I would look I take a glance over at caleb and only take now to scan over his features he has a curly mop of light blond hair on his head that went perfectly with his sea green eyes he looked like your typical good boy who ever girl tripped over there own feet just to take a second glance at and along with that his sharp jawline he was a tad bit muscular with light abs nothing too serious but definitely worth a second glance we all made our living a different way around here other than being in the scrap yard Caleb also did some heavy lifting for a construction company every once in a while when they were short on staff and it did bring in some good pay. Soon my thoughts turned over to my parents who disappeared when I was 10. I don't know what day exactly. I don't really keep up with the days unless they're important. Sleep slowly overcame me with my thoughts as I needed as much rest as possible for my day tomorrow.
