I almost fell when Sesshomaru disappeared beside me. His movements were so quick I only caught a glimpse of his bloody red eyes. Lashes of his green poisonous whip can be seen despite the thick miasma.
"Kagome!"
I looked up to see Sango with Miroku, riding on Kirara. They dropped on the ground; Sango immediately ran to me. I hopped down the stone and greeted her.
"How did you get here?" Sango's worried voice covered the loud screaming of Naraku. She placed a hand on my cheek while looking at me from head-to-toe.
"I'm fine." I tapped her hand on my cheek. "I'm with-"
"Damn you, Sesshomaru! You'll regret this!"
We both looked up as a swarm of Naraku's bees fly in the air, holding Naraku's head. They flew away, making the atmosphere clear slowly from miasma. I forgot about Sango when my eyes landed on Sesshomaru. My feet automatically ran to him. I clutched his left sleeve, checking his body for injuries.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
His golden eyes looked at me. For a second, I thought he looked happy but he frowned a bit and reached something from the ground. He stepped on one of Naraku's body before opening my palm to place something.
My lips parted as I stare at the jewel shard emitting small sparks upon Sesshomaru's touch. The tainted shards became purified when it landed on my palms. I looked up to Sesshomaru, only to find him staring at me blankly.
"Your eyes are brown again," he commented, using his usual monotone.
"Really?"
"Kagome," Miroku calls, stopping behind Sesshomaru.
"Give me a minute, please."
Miroku nodded, turning his back and retreating to Sango. She remained staring at me. I can't clearly see her facial expression but I can already feel the interrogation I'm going to experience later.
I looked up at Sesshomaru, his cold eyes are already staring at me. "Will I see you again?" I asked quickly.
His ears twitched once, I looked at it weirdly. He must have noticed so he cleared his throat. I looked at his eyes again, admiring it. He remained silent for a minute. His eyes never bothered leaving mine. I hesitated, but took a step backward, forming a thin line on my lips.
"I'll leave now, thank you for saving me." I waved at him, spun around and started walking away. The shards digging my palm.
I reached Sango and hugged her. My chest suddenly felt heavy. She hugged me back, patting my shoulders. I felt another pair of arms encircling around us. A hard slap echoed along with Miroku's chuckle.
"I thought we're having a group hug," he shrugged, rubbing his right hand. A mark of Sango's palm is bruising on the back of his hand.
I chuckled at the both of them. Sango kept her arms around me, while I remained my arms around her waist. Kirara jumped on my shoulder while Miroku trail behind us.
I missed them, too.
As we walk back to the foot of the mountain, Miroku kept babbling about how Sango treated him badly. I kept laughing at him, stopping when Sango pinches my shoulder. After the long walk, Rin and Jaken weren't there already, I guessed Sesshomaru travelled faster than us.
He could have gotten to Naraku faster but I think I held him slow. He never complained though. He just kept quiet the whole time, glancing at me every time I fall behind. I appreciated his concern even if it isn't shown most of the time, I've been travelling with him. The week that passed, I've been able to rest my mind. Although my head hurts sometimes, it was still bearable.
If only I could... stay longer.
